We all hear about how tough native breeds are. Can they carry adults safely? I sure a Dales or Highland Pony can and probably a Fell. What about an Exmoor? Sec B?
My Highland is only 13.3 hh and I weigh just over 10 stone. I haven't noticed her staggering under the heavy load yet! Enough of the walrus jokes please Shilasdair.
for some natives I think they say about a stone for every hand in height, but this is for the traditionally bred ones (which you don't see many of anymore). A Highland with good bone can carry up to about 14 stone.
Dales and Fell can carry adults with ease too.
I rode my children's shetland (he was being a naughty ponio)and he tried to clear off with me, bucking and farting all the way... so I'm pretty sure he wasnt struggling with my 9 stone in weight

Perhaps he was only 'bucking and farting' as your weight forced the last remaining air from him...
Think Whoopee cushion

i have a traditionally bred sec d.....not the slight "sportsy" type at all but a leg in each corner cob!
Exmoor Ponies were used by farmers to check their stock in days gone by and there are still quite a few here ridden and hunted by adults - so yes they are good weight carriers!

Hunted by adults??? Wow! So if you saw a 5'10", 11 stone bloke riding an Exmoor, you wouldn't feel disaproving? (for example)

Speaking as a walrus, you look like an adult to me if that is you in your avatar pic. I'm not sure why you need to check? Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick, don't forget I am only a walrus and I am typing this with one flipper.

There's no guarantee that's him....he could just post some random unsuspecting stranger in his avatar.
He could even be Welsh, for example, and we wouldn't know.

Thanks for the tip. Off to get a penguin - I'm feeling a bit peckish and penguins are hardly ever Welsh, if they are I just spit them out again smartish.....
p.s. this is a joke - if you knew my name you might suspect a bit of Welshness - lol.

Welsh penguins must taste awful?
Don't worry if you're Welsh...it could be worse (Sassenach for example)
