We all hear about how tough native breeds are. Can they carry adults safely? I sure a Dales or Highland Pony can and probably a Fell. What about an Exmoor? Sec B?

My Highland is only 13.3 hh and I weigh just over 10 stone. I haven't noticed her staggering under the heavy load yet! Enough of the walrus jokes please Shilasdair.

for some natives I think they say about a stone for every hand in height, but this is for the traditionally bred ones (which you don't see many of anymore). A Highland with good bone can carry up to about 14 stone.
Dales and Fell can carry adults with ease too.
I rode my children's shetland (he was being a naughty ponio)and he tried to clear off with me, bucking and farting all the way... so I'm pretty sure he wasnt struggling with my 9 stone in weight

Just been listening to those radio documentaries and it says exmoors can carry adults. Just not sure if I would be classed as an adult (so to speak!)

I need to check because I like to know lots of random facts. I'm a man and I studied science to degree level - facts are important to me.
