I paid £800 for Jed at Cambridge sales. He was so scrawney (sp?) and young. I have been told by many people that if i was to sell him now (which i never would) he would go for 4-5k. Nice little earner dont you think!
Bought Darcy for £1700, was asked to make an offer on Pinky and as she was the same age as D was when I bought him and roughly the same stage I offered the same and they accepted... They are both exracers so £1700 each sounds a lot, however they are as close too 100% as you will get in any horse, no issues/vices and both more than capable of affiliating in whatever I decide to do with them so I think £1700 was a bragin!!!
Paris was a gift from a friend (who was like a dad to me) I rode ponies and then horses for many years for him and his wife. He got cancer so we breed his best mare from his stud Sky bird and got Paris!!! Who now is 5years old and has give me so much fun and happiness to remember him bye
xx
Eric, 3k, as an 8 yr old, 6yrs ago

Rosie, Home bred

Paid 2300 euros for Mighty and 2000 for King. Mighty was the best deal ever looking at it. She is worth about 5-7000 euros at least because of her bloodlines and competition records but there were horrendous circumstances for her breeder/previous owner and he needed her gone before she was ruined/killed
. I have offered him first refusal of a foal from her so he is very happy
I paid £2500 for J including everything - saddle bridle, rugs, grooming kits everything, as his old owner was giving up horses - she even gave me stuff that had belonged to her previous horses! I sold loads of it on ebay and made back over £500 starught away. To replace him now, with something to go out and do the same stuff straight away, I reckon I'd need at least £4-£5k.
Tia was £3000, 10 years ago, but she was a 5 year old very well bred Trakheber already winning SJ local opens. Shame she has crap joints really!
Zara - £2k 9 years ago (5 year old - done just dressage)
Mogul - £3k - 13 years ago (5 year old - done little bit of everything)
Spur - £700 3 years ago (6 year old - ex-flat racer - out of training 18 months)
Millie - £1K 8 years ago (Yearling - no handled at all)
Ajay was £400 in 1997 (shetty just broken from stud)
Teddy was £1250 in 1998 ( welsh A shown to high level)
Pip and ginga we got together, along with harness's carriage etc, they worked out about £2000 each,( competed nationaly as a pair, but Pip was not broken to single or ride)
and the boys came with harness's carriage etc and worked out £3500 each.(competed inernationaly as a team, some broken to ride, others not)
Well I part exchanged my old psychotic eventer (who was worth no more than a bullet by that point) for Rocks and paid £2500 on top of that - so calculated that I paid £5000 for psycho i ended up paying equivalent of about £7500 (or losing 5grand on pyscho,, depends how you look at it)
Bane was sold to his old owners as a 4yr old for £12k. They didn't get on with him so he got shipped about and I ended up getting him from a dealer for £3k (bargain!!)
Paid £8k for my advanced event schoolmaster..he was 13 at the time. Best money ive ever spent as he has taught me so much and given me my confidence back after a bone crunching fall. Plus we had the joy of watching him compete at Gatcombe with his previous rider.
I used to ride a horse that cost £35k! He was sold for £5k as he couldnt handle the dressage training. He was put under a lot of stress and mentally couldnt cope. Got him nice and settled and he ended up a lovely PN event horse.
If you look at the price of horses in H&H now, it seems to be £8k for something ordinary and £15k for something with a bit of talent eek!!!. dont you think prices have really shot up or am I looking in the wrong place?
Paid £3500 for Star nearly 2years ago, but she was originally up for £6k with her owner but as she'd just gone through a bad patch in life and needed to find her a home she was passed to my YO who was dealing horses and we managed to get her for that....so in theory she's worth more then that now and i can easily make my money back if needed....
Brought Ari my youngster for £1000 straight from breeders field - ended up having to sell her for £1200 as she had back problems and mental issues, but is now in a lovely home which is helping her
Horse before that Taz (i still own but she is out as a companion) i ended up giving her owner/breeder £200 just as a nominal fee as we had kept her for a few years prior
I paid £2750 for Polly, that was about 18months ago. That included saddle, bridle and 2 rugs plus some odd bits of tack like brushing boots etc.
Saddle and one rug needed to be replaced pretty much imediately but the other stuff is still going strong. I think she was a bit of a bargain as I bought her unfit and only recently back into work after a year off.
Ruby £900 (10yo) 3 years ago (scruffy and sold to me as TB cross and shes actually a freeze branded hannovarian??!! does everything inc BSJA now has scope to burn but i dont!! (I jump max 1 20)
Blu bought in spring for £3700 as just backed 4yo ISH and will do 1st event in spring and should be pre nov by end of season. bought him as he looked nice and good confirmation!!
Theo pony 14.2 iron grey 5yo conny beautiful pony but very nervous under fed and skinny hangups galore paid £1300 but startd BSJA this winter. He is amazing XC so hopefully she should be able to BE him in another year or 2 (he already done brightling and firle!!)
Hate buying horses very stressful and we always go for the sob story!
