How much do you expect of your horse when hacking alone?

Only one problem as far as I can see, is that I live 3,500 miles away from you

Buying babies is the thing to do; the right babies, with the right bloodlines. If you know what you are doing and you do it right, then you really do have a good chance at having a fantastic horse at the end of the process.

One thing I notice though, little ponies do just seem to get on with it because they have little kids for most of their lives doing bizarre things with them, so they really do become pretty used to everything. I think people with big horses do tend to molly coddle them somewhat and they won't play with their horses and do fun/silly stuff with them for fear of breaking them

I go out for a hack most mornings in the summer alone as no one else wants to come out at 5am. My big mare is so spooky on her own so I got one who would hack on her own and just love it. OH now rides spooky mare but can only manage 2 5am starts a week.

i expect a lot - we hack out a lot on our own and i expect him to walk on and generally just relax.
but then again when he was 5 he was hacked on a dual carriageway (which im not even sure is legal

so i expect him to not fuss about cars etc. although he had a bad scare with a motorbike so is a bit edgy around them.

dependant on light, we regualary go exploring

with my 19yo i expect her to be 100% and so far shes not let me down.shes very bold and excellent with traffic.the only thing that upsets her is loose horses-in fields.they can allbe laying down but it still turns her into an arab stallion lol

with the 5yo i expect her to go forwards when i ask and go last or first.shes good but a bit nervy as shes not hacked out much on her own.
