Horse 1:15 hh Appaloosa x Cob
Activities: Hunting, hacking, Dressage, Show Jumping
Work Level: Moderate to Hard
Feed: Ad lib Good Quality Seed Hay
2 cups of Baileys Lo-Cal Balancer
1/2 scoop of Alfa A Lite Chaff
1 scoop of Cortaflex
Carrots/Apples

He is fully clipped and is currently wearing a HW Combo rug. He is very fit, and is currently at his ideal weight. He is a very good doer, and is prone to Laminitis so I have to watch his weight. He has plenty of energy without any hard feed!

Horse 2: 15.3 hh ISH
Activities: Hacking, Dressage, Show Jumping
Work Level: Light to Moderate
Feed: Ad lib Haylage
2 cups of Baileys Lo-Cal Balancer
Carrots/Apples

He has a blanket clip which has nearly grown out so on cold nights he is wearing a HW Combo rug and on milder nights he is wearing a LW standard neck rug. He is a good doer, who can get a bit excitable when turnout is limited. He is reasonably fit and is the correct weight at the moment for his type.

Horse 3: 11.2 hh Welsh Mountain pony
Activities: Companion/pet
Work Level: None as she is retired
Feed: 2 slices of meadow hay per day (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening)
1 cup of Baileys Lo-Cal Balancer
Carrots/Apples

She is unclipped and lives out 24/7. She is currently wearing a MW standard neck rug. There isn't much grass in our field at the moment so we are feeding her hay. She would lose weight easily if not fed correctly but with the above diet she looks very well.

Ron is IDx, 16.2hh, 17yo, fit and hunting, good doer and excitable.
Tom is Hann x Welsh (don't ask)16hh, also 17yo, more or less roughed off but prone to getting cold.

they are turned out for more than 12hrs most days, except in the most horrendous of weather when they are given the option of coming and going as they please. Ron is fully clipped, Tom has a bib clip (he gets scabby between his front legs otherwise) and both wear Rambo Supreme Turnouts most of the winter.

both get the same, just in different proportions....
ad lib haylage (Ron eats about half a small bale per night, Tom eats slightly less)
Speedibeet (soak 2 scoops, and split almost evenly, Tom gets a little more than Ron)
AlfaA Oil (Ron gets 2 stubbs scoops, Tom gets 1)
Baileys stud balancer (Ron has 2 mugs, Tom has 1)
Cider vinegar (a slosh each)

Ron gets electrolytes before and after hunting, Tom gets a calmer before Ron goes hunting, and low dose of bute to help with bone spavin discomfort.

this all works out at £4 a day haylage and £40 a month feed, and £15 a year in electrolyte and £20 a year in calmer.

13.2 new forest living out very good doer in light work (hacking and some jumping). chaser clipped as gets very hairy and would be dripping in sweat when jumping or hacking in anything other than walk. HW rambo wug.

Feed once a day large handful of dengie good doer, handful of slim and healthy. (He is on a diet) He also has some hay when he comes up to the yard to be ridden or when traveling to shows, (about 2 slices a week).

No hay in field at the moment as there is enough grass as they are all good doers and looking well.

I guess I am lucky he is so cheap to feed but keeping the weight off him is not easy.

a medium size vitamin scoop of speedi beet (makes about a handfull soaked) split between two feeds
Vits and mins and some veg
9 kg of overnight soaked hay
She isn't rugged or clipped and is only doing about 20-25 mins walk work 5 days a week as she is coming back from injury. Also, she is box rested so no grass.

5, ranging from 14.1 hh NFx to 16.3 hh IDx, aged 8 yrs to 29 yrs, one is clipped and rugged, all given the same - ad lib forage (haylage, barley straw), soaked grassnuts and dried grass in varying proportions with different supplements according to their needs. They are all turned out for 12 hrs per day.
We can easily adjust their diet according to weather/work and its all relatively inexpensive. IMO there is absolutely no need to feed a wide variety of feedstuffs - keep it simple!

ETA
I certainly wouldn't feed 2 different compound feeds, what's the point? And it is my understanding that feeding bran does more harm than good except in specific circumstances.

I have a 16h1" Hann x TB & a 16h2" Hol x Selle Francais, both are jumpers. The amount they get fed depends on what they will be doing. If they are not going to be worked then they have very little. If they will be at a show or have some heavy work to do then they will be fed more. If you maintain the same amount of feed each day with a disregard for what the horse will actually be doing then it is a recipe for problems.
