Just wondered whether people take all product recommendations as gospel on here. Or are you a bit cynical like me and want to know whether someone has a hidden agenda and are trying to push their own product on here under the guise of an independent recommendation? Do you ever check the posting history of a user to see if they repeatedly plug the same products?

I keep pushing Cleveland Bays

I have found it invaluable for some info that you would never have found out at your local tack shop - where they are pushing their products (ie sunflower seeds).

Cup a day gives a fantastic shiny coat and strengthens feet - the black ones in their shells that you feed birds - a £9 bag lasts 3 months!

I read something then do a bit of research of my own. But on whole I trust.

Soaked Oats kept my horse looking wonderful all winter and cost a lot less than what he was on the previous winter. I also now have a single flap close contact saddle thanks to recommendations. I have also been able to borrow a fair bit off other HHO people to try before I buy - weighted boots and the above saddle.
I also get eventing recommendations and really trust them for events as there will always be some places you have never been to.

It depends who it is. I would be more likely to trust someone who has been on here a long time than a stranger or newbie. Sometimes I have a look back through their posts as well

[/ QUOTE ] Me too - I know it sounds a bit unfair but you have a much better idea of their background and the reliability of their information.

Depends on the person!! One idiot always plugs "Dragonfly Saddlery" - I won't buy from them on principle now

I always look who has suggested it, to be fair I am more likely to trust the members I know, rather than ones I dont.

But as for that PG *tut*

LOL - no, it is still doing the job just fine! It also works brilliantly on Misty too and stops her rubbing her bottom in the field! My neighbour has also bought some now on my recommendation!

But I do agree that it is easier to trust someone that you know and have even met. I always find it particularly suspicious when a new poster arrives and puts up something like "I just had to tell you about this new wonder feed/supplement/product I have just tried. It is the best thing ever and my horse has been turned from a Project Horses reject into a Badminton winner!"

I always find my Salt Pot sitting on my desk comes in handy when reading some recommendations
grin.gif
.

I also think that it goes for advice regarding riding, lunging, groundwork, hacking, the list goes on. Some responses make me giggle, like read it before you post it?! Or are you having a giraffe?!

Hb

(Maybe a bit controversial). I see the point you are making re taking advice from people who have been on here longer etc but maybe not everyone has enough time in the day to be sittting on here adding 1000's of posts.

I think its a case of if the info is relevant and helpful to you take it and if its not, then diregard. I genuinely think that the majority of people give advice to be helpful. pass on their experience. I would like to think it was that way.

Rant over!! Enough said!

I tend to wait for more than one or two people to recommend a product. Then I go off and google it. Then I ask other people about it. Then I decide whether or not I want it.

To clairfy K27 I said the following

"to be fair I am more likely to trust the members I know, rather than ones I dont"

NOT

I am more likely to trust a member who has a high post count and has been here as long as God and his dog

.

What you are infering I said, and what was actually said are completely different

. See knowing someone would pick up on this I was careful with my wording in the first place

The worst product plugging is the (unscientifically tested) 'snake oil' for colic that the manufacturer gets into every second post....what's it called, coligone or something?
I looked it up on Google, and the ingredients are very very secret - alarm bells straight away!

Agree HBII - nothing to do with post count or duration of forum membership at all, other than the fact that some people have been kicking around so long that people have a much better idea of who they are, what they do and whether they have a hidden agenda. In fact there are some very irregular posters on here whose advice I trust much more than some very high profile regulars.

Just like if a stranger came up to you in the street and said buy this product it is really fab, you are bound to wonder whats in it for him. Whereas if an old friend that you have known for years said it you would assume she was wanting to help you out. That's human nature I'm afraid.

Hi Hb

Maybe I should of made myself clearer- however I was talking in general terms and wasn't specifically replying to the points that you, youself, had personally raised.

LOL! I know what you mean although I haven't seen it mentioned on here recently. I must admit though that at least they were honest about having a commercial interest in it, rather than some posters who pretend to just be very satisfied consumers - I do find that rather deceitful.

i am my own person!! Il read peoples views, but i tend to go with what i think anyways if i ask for opinions!!

I dont really ask for much information on products on here anyways - whats good for some isnt always good for others.

That's true, at least they were obvious about it. As someone whose horse suffers from colic, it annoys me that people are willing to try to cash in on my worries.
I stand to be corrected regarding clinical tests...and ingredients

Well if you've got a cough then can I recommend FabboCoffBuster serum - it did a fantastic job of shifting my cough in minutes and I just happened to have the number of a chap who can supply you. Don't forget to mention my name when you order ...
