How much does your dog cost and how much do you walk it?

I have a papillon who is very cheap to run because she is tiny and eats very small amounts of food! She gets walked once a day for about half an hour-40 minutes plus lots of play indoors.

Excluding vet bills our lab costs us about £15 every two months for food and then flea and worming treatment on top of that. Probably averages at less than £10 a month and he's a very big (40kg!) boy!

I don't 'walk' him a huge amount but he comes to the yard with me and also to work some days so he is often out of the house for over 5 hours; during that time he is always on the go, we are playing ball or he'll follow me round the field when I do canter work. He sleeps for the rest of the day after that!

If he wasn't out with me then he would be walked once a day, either half an hour of the lead or a 15 mins run with me on a bike.

My two cost me about £30 a week between them to feed, and are walked three times a day. Half an hour first thing, two hours at lunch time, and half an hour last thing. They grew up living on my livery yard and spending all day out on the yard with me. The Dane likes to just bimble so I often take the mutt out riding to really tire him out without the Dane.

Two collies are £69 a month to feed, walked once a day three days run off lead the rest lead walked for one of them. He has hip dysplasia and arthritis in his spine so is on meds too.
The other just fits in with the other dogs walks but gets more days off lead.

The pup now 30 minutes a day mix of run and lead walk. Brother pays for her food.

I spend about £40 a month on food. Other things like treats and toys probably another £20 a month. Vet bills and worming probably £100 a year. Spaying was one off £260. She gets walked for about half an hour three times a day. She will get longer walks when older.

About 40-45 pounds a month on food (raw meat and bones) for 3 dogs (lab x staffy who is small lab size), Saluki xWhippet longdog (larger than a Whippet not so big as a Saluki) and a jack russell who is very large for a russell (28 pounds in weight).
The only treats they get I make for them and is included in the food bill.
We don't get fleas and other supplements include coconut oil and diatomaceous earth which keeps the worms at bay and costs about 5 pounds a month max so in total I'd say 50-50 per month all in.

I walk them once a day, they used to get a morning walk but are all too lazy to get out of bed in the mornings to go now.

I have a border collie who probably costs about £30 a month. He doesn't eat much and I work in a vets so get discount food & flea/worming. He also has regular eye medication and pain relief due to glaucoma. He gets walked 3 times a day. 30 minutes in the morning, an hour in the afternoon and 30 minutes in the evening. At weekends he used to cover several miles but has slowed down a bit now at nearly 13 years old. If he doesn't get his 3 walks a day he cries a lot!

4yo rottie and 1.5 yo sbt
£25 bag of skinners last 4 to 5 weeks
50p wet tin a day between then
34p tin of sardines each 3 times a week
£2 a week on training treats/biscuits

largest expence is the advocate
£5 each a week agility training

exercise is about 45 mins free time at the yard,15 mins proper heelwork/jumps weavs etc followed by a 1 to 2 hour walk usually with my neighbour, mostly on lead.
now lighter evenings they will come over the yard again .

my expence lately has been finding staffy-proof toys for training lol
(have found a sleeve cut from one of my old fleeces and cut up the the shoulder seem then platted works well)

3beasties - £15 for 2 months feed for a large lab , whats your secret?

My 2 GSDs cost me around £30 a month each on basic food, plus supplements, training treats etc. Insurance is another £20 each per month, plus vet fees for basics such as vaccs.
They are walked for about an hour a day and spend a lot of time running loose in the fields.

£28 bag of skinners last a month, insurance is £18 and he's a big lump of a greyhound (35kg), walked upwards of 2 x 20 mins a day (weekends its more)

Four greyhounds who range from 20kg to 35kg in weight, aged between 8 and 12 years old. They cost £160 per month on food (fed raw from Manifold Valley Meats) plus vets bills, which usually average a few thousand pounds a year. They aren't insured as it isn't worth it!

They are the original couch potatoes and are walked for about an hour a day - two of them hurtle around like lunatics whilst two of them plod along at my heels, but they all have fun :)

Two Spaniels, £30 a month for food, £5 for salmon oil, £2 for seaweed powder. No other expenses.

Labrador costs about 145 a month, he goes gundog training weekly tho so that bumps up the price and is insured.
Gets walked at least once a day for min 45mins off lead, and then either second walk of about half hour off lead or he comes to the yard and potters around for a few hours if it's my days off.
Wow just realised we spend a fortune compared to most!! Good job we have only one dog and no kids!!

Border Terrier, food is probably £10 ish a month for Wainwright's dry food (it was a compromise when he was a puppy as he refused to eat the mega expensive fancy Orijen I bought and would only eat this, it's a medium quality food). Another £10 on insurance.

He doesn't get a huge amount of walking, probably one good off lead walk a week, two plods around the block and then three days running free at the yard with the other dogs for a few hours. He seems very happy with this set up, loves every one and everything that he meets and has grown into a wonderful little dog (he was a tearaway when he was little, even with more exercise!)

He'll probably start to do more exercise when we move house as we'll be in a village with lots of good dog walking.

Labrador, costs about £40 a month for food (Acana) and about £40 a month insurance ( which covers his daily metacam)

He gets 1 45 min off lead walk a day and one 15 min leg stretch, he is however nearly 9 and has a spinal condition. As a younger dog he took more exercise

Three lurchers and one terrier. Fed dry food, tinned Chappie original, raw meat and bones and training treats. Total food costs £121.00 a month. Exercise one hour mostly loose running, but put back on lead whenever necessary. Plus chase and retrieve games, lots of play, and regular training as they go to various classes at least once a year each.

On top of this, there is insurance, oil supplements, Advocate, immunisations, tape wormers, coats, toys, stag bars, bedding, harnesses, 10 m. training leads, car equipment. Then the excess not paid by insurance for the thankfully rare injury (the latest being a piece of wood broken inside a hind foot during a chase). Finally, holiday expenses if cottage charges for dogs, and boarding fees at trainer' s during family visits for the latest arrival who still gets dangerously stressed by strangers. Total? A few thousand a year!

It's insurance that costs me £40 per month for veteran, plus food which is about £30 plus dog groomers so around £100 altogether on a normal month without vets or flea and wormer

One JRT/Chihuahua/Dachshund
Food - about $70 every 3-4 months.
Steroids for his allergy - about $30 every 6 weeks which he needs all months when there is grass (so this year, end of December until end of February he didn't need them)
He has heart worm pills once per month May-September plus a heart worm test once a year.
Vaccines - distemper every 3 years and rabies every year. About $70 for the rabies one (and this includes his yearly health check). The distemper one cost about $130.
Dog license - $45 per year or cheaper if my OH had remembered about the early bird special.
Various other things (training/treats etc) - No idea, quite a lot I expect!

Walking - very dependent on the time of year, not a lot if it is a blizzard! But we do enjoy some nice longer walks during the non slippery months. And almost constant indoor play if someone is home. Its amazing what things you can do whilst also throwing something.

My beagle costs around £30 a month for food and treats.
- £19.50 for insurance (gold package)
- Doggy day care 2 x a week at £10 a day. He only gets a 10 min walk on those days as he is out all day playing with other dogs and he's knackered by the time he is dropped off! It's a lifesaver whilst working full time and 7 months pregnant!
- About £100 a year for vaccs/worming/fleas

He gets walked twice a day (except day care days above)

Interesting calculator!
Big dog (Saluki) costs about £1 a day to feed on raw. Little dog (longhaired dachshund) about 50p. Their jabs are about £40 a year each and wormers about £10 for the two of them every 2 months. Both get the run of the fields twice a day at least, although little dog tends to just potter a bit. Big dog will be out with me all day long when I am off work.

I am envious you only spend that much on your raw feeding :) Mind you, a couple of mine are good do-ers who would easily manage that, the other two (a 12 year old and a quite stressy dog) are harder to keep condition on :)

I don't want to know exactly how much mine cost. To be fair to them their day to day running costs aren't too bad, it's the optional extras (racing/competition/show/training) that stack up. We've been to three separate events this weekend alone. :o

They're walked for a minimum of two and more usually three hours a day.

Mrs Spaniel costs about 10.00 a week to feed - a mixture of dry and wet for breakfast and tea. This might change though as we're off to a nutritionalist tomorrow! She also has bones all day to gnaw on and odd treats throughout day as we practice basic manners!

Walks vary. She has a 7am walk which is between 20-40 minutes dependent on how early I can drag myself out of bed - We are very lucky in that there's a park 5 minutes from my house.

I house-share with my brother and partner. So when I'm at work my brother will do a 10-20 minute lunchtime walk before or after he goes to work. If my partner is at home (he works abroad a lot) He will take her out for an hour at lunchtime.

We do another walk about 5-ish when I get home for an hour, and then half hour about 7.30. Around 10.30 she goes out around the block for a final wee break and thats normally about 15 minutes.

Tuesdays/Fridays/Sundays I go to my share horse and she runs free around the yard for about two hours while I do my chores and then gets put in the car/stable while I ride as she can't be trusted to stay out of the way!

Weekends we normally do our normal weekday routine but with a two hour lunchtime walk instead.

We play lots of games indoors in the meantime and she starts puppy school this Wednesday so will walk her over there for 2 hours.

Thursdays are the only day she probably has less of a walk as I go to language classes then so she misses out on the 7.30 walk but has her 10.30 walk still.

Phew! Worn myself out thinking about all that - She of course is always begging for more!

Mine are quite expensive as we have to pay a dog walker £100 a week (but he's worth it as they are out for 4 hours a day!). We moved last year to a property without a garden so the dog walker is essential.

In terms of food, my girl probably costs £5 a week Max as she eats tinned food plus biscuits. My boy however got very ill this year and now has special biscuits for his tummy mixed in with freshly cooked chicken every day. So he costs me about £15 a week to feed I gues.

So in total that's aboyt £500 a month- jeez!!! But worth every single penny ❤️ And they are only little jack Russell !

I have two labs, they go through a sack of skinners a month at about £26, with half a tin of Butchers dog food a day which is about a fiver for twelve tins. They get three walks daily, out first thing for 20 minutes, then in the field while doing the horse for about half an hour, then an hours walk at teatime, then in the field again for about half a hour on the evening. They often get longer 12+ mile walks on a weekend and go swimming regularly.
