I have a fantastic farrier who I wouldn't swap for the world... but I was a bit concerned when someone said he is quite expensive.

I have 4 new shoes every 5 weeks, and at present he is costing me £68.00 but from 1st April his going to £70.00.

Now personally I didn't think this was too bad and was quite happy to pay this, until I was discussing this with another horsey friend who did the ooh, gosh that's a tad expensive voice and now I am worrying just a little.

He is a fantastic farrier and I won't change regardless of his costs because he looks after my little mare perfectly, but then it got me thinking "I wonder what other farrier's charge?"

So where else to post the qusetion than on here!

Thanks x

£30 for a trim, normal round here is £20 I think but got a very very good farrier who is kind to pony also so happy to pay extra xx

£65 full set (£60 if he is doing quite a few horses on same yard)
£35 fronts

I'm in the north west

my farrier £25 trim, £45 fronts, £75 full set, £1 per stud hole, £1 per road nail-he is great at his job and reliable-shoes rarely come off-great with the horses

Another farrier at yard £15 trim, £30 fronts, £60 full set, not sure on stud hole and road nail prices-he is not a great farrier but ok, very unreliable an horse lose lots of shoes-not very patient with the horses

Another one £20 trim, £35 fronts, £65 full, not sure about stud hole and road nail prices, good farrier but you never know if you are getting him or an apprentice (he has 3) if you get an apprentice they are often alone, fairly reliable-he is good with horses but apprentices are very variable.

I would rather pay the extra

£75 for full set and have been paying that much for a couple of years now. I know its a bit more expensive but he is very experienced and vet recommended him to help with laminitic pony.

For my farrier I've had for years £60 for 4 shoes or £35 for back shoes only.

I've been using a different farrier for my mares fronts as she has been needing alot of remedial work done and for the 1st pair I was £135 for fronts only and then £45.60 every 5 weeks to get them trimmed and same shoes put back on. Just got new smaller shoes put on fronts at £90 and then should be £45.60 every 5 weeks until she needs a new pair!.

£75a set. Farrier comes for whole day with two apprentices and does most of yard. Had a cheaper one before but he wasn't' as reliable or such a good farrier. I think price does vary depending on area too. I'm in m3 m4corridor Hampshire

I have had the same farrier for 20 years. i pay £35 a full new set £25 reset £15 front and £10 for a trim. If they lose a shoe he pops and puts it bcak on for free :)

I love him muchly lol ;)

Im in Notts x

£68 for a full set - all in. Previous farrier was £90 for a full set and then decided to add £12 call out fee just on my horses despite the fact he did all the YO's horses in the same visit - also wouldn't shoe my big one without sedation which added to cost although current chap has never had a problem with him.

My Welsh D (14.2) has a full set and road nails for £72. She is an every 6 week pony, often down to 5 weeks in the summer if we are doing a lot. I know he charges more for people with larger horses/further away. I also have him trim my unshod one at the same time. He doesn't always charge me for the trim and when he does it is anything between £5-£20. He is an expensive farrier for this area but he is excellent so I'm happy to pay for him.

£75 for a full set with road nails, £25 for a trim. Fabulous patient farrier who is great with the babies and is always prompt. He even phones if he is going to be more than 15 minutes late. We've used him for him for so long that he's known all the neds since birth.

£50 full set, £35 fronts only for normal shoes and £60 aluminium front egg bars and £15 trim. He is an old friend's son, really patient and reliable and has been putting his prices up for the last 2 years ........

£75 for a set with road nails

Compared with the cost of mending a lame horse everything mentioned above seems vv cheap

£75 for a full set in Surrey. His prices do go up by about £2 every year or so, when I first got my mare 11 years ago I think he was charging £55 - £60.
