How much does your horse drink?

curious, because i think my horse drinks a massive amount

He sometimes drinks his large tubtrug dry (38L) in a night, and I often wonder if this is a little excessive

He also drinks a lot at events or when we are away anywhere.

So how much does your horse drink and do they drink when they are away from home?

My first lad would drink almost all of it bucket every night but my horse now usually drinks about half of it but my friends mare hardly drinks anything. I know there is a given average amount but as with humans all horses are different!

My mare drinks 2 big trug tubs overnight and the small one will be touched too...but she has been drinking considerabaly more since she became a milkbar she used to drink one and a half maybe a touch less....

FB - very little although he does drink more at night now, nearly half a 25l bucket. Don't know how much he drinks in the field.

MoM - gallons! She drinks a 25l bucket a night and I have to top it up in the morning for her breakfast. Unfortunately she also recycles it and leaves it in the stable when she leaves

I quite often see her drinking in the field.

I think it also depends on the weather mine drink quite a lot less if its been rainig and the grass must hold more water plus its covered in it.....

If my mare is in at night it is quite normal for her to drink half a black dustbin each night and thats with soaked hay! We had it checked out with the vet and everythings fine thats just the way she is.

And yes her bed is seriously wet!!!!

My Big lag has two tub trugs everyday and usually drinks half of one or three quarters at a push. He doesnt drink a lot at all.

No - I have a big drinker too - she can go through 6 buckets a day (I fill a tub up with fresh water when she needs it) - and she's out during the day grazing too! My little one doesn't drink that much though - sometimes not even a bucket full over night

Baileys drinks half a bucket a night and Joe less, they both have soaked hay and are out from 6am until 4pm so I am unsure how much they drink during the day as they have automatic troughs. Baileys will drink a little after dressage and sj and a bucket after xc, more on a hot day, but he has soaked hay in the lorry as well.

i dont really know to be honest but he has just a normal size bucket of water over night From 6pm until 7am and to be honest he does not really touch that!

mine has auto-refillable so no idea how much he drinks but judging by the amount of times he wees i would say alot
