A friend of a friend is doing me a HUGE favour tomorrow and picking up my mare for me. She has no need to do this, shes really only a casual acquaintance. I am so very grateful. Its a 50 mile round trip and she is using a 4x4 and trailer. How much petrol money should i give her? I have no idea about the costs of pulling a trailer. I absolutely don't want to under pay her!

Also any ideas for a present to buy her? Shes pregnant so the usual nice bottle of wine is a no go!

That is very kind of her, someone did that for me also but luckily the trip wasn't as far. I would pay her maybe £40, think that would definately cover it. As for a pressie idea some nice bath products to relax in a not to hot bath?

I probably sound tight but i would offer her £30 and a box of chocs or maybe an outfit/goodies for the baby?

If she refuses to take the money (or gift) then i would take her for a meal somewhere nice.

I'd ask her how much her fuel cost (be honest and say you have no idea how much it costs to tow trailer) and then you have no risk of getting it wrong. I'd add a bit more money on top (a tenner probably) for her time etc and get her something for the baby or some nice smellies to pamper herself (I certainly needed it in my pregancy!)

£50 definitely, it would cost way more than that to get a transporter to do it. Then a nice card with a bunch of flowers a few days later to say 'horse has settled in well, thanks so much for getting her for me' type of thing. That's what I'd do.
