to look after 8 horses for 2 weeks 3 miles down the road. I will have to check them all once a day and poo pick, she reckons it will take about an hour a day. So it will be 6 miles of travelling (not far at all) and about an hour of work.

So how much do you reckon?? Because I don't have a clue TBH

i used to charge my old boss who had horses £30 per day to do 6 no poo pickin either!! just muckout, feeds and haynets! and this was 9 yrs ago tho!!! and could ride who i wanted whenever!!

average charge is 40p p/mile p/day plus a hourly charge. difficult to charge more than about £5-6 p/hour as all you re doing is poo picking. This works out at:

£84 for labour and £33.60 petrol.

you may want to charge more than this, but at least this gives you a starting point.

When I used to freelance groom (though no horsey qualfications) I used to charge £6/h no matter what work I did, whether it was poo picking, tack cleaning, riding...
I didn't charge travelling, but often would just go to each place twice a week or whatever just to help the owner keep on top of things. If I'd been travelling somewhere everyday then I'd have probably asked for money towards the petrol too.
Actually if it was just 3 miles each way I'd probably cycle as I'm too tight to put petrol in for that sort of distance!

Id charge £5 per horse per day = £40 per day. where else could they get a horse looked after and piece of mind for that price? It costs that to have your cat looked after.

£40 a day for an hours work?!?!??!?!?! No one would pay that!

I charge £15 an hr, but for just poo picking and not far to travel I'd charge them £8. That seems like a reasonable price. Think that would be £112 for the 2 weeks. Which isnt bad for not alot of work!!!!

Id say £5 a day or make a total charge of £100 for the whole two weeks, thats £7ish a day. I think thats fair its not exactly difficult work and if its not inconveniencing you too much then it be good if they thought of you again in the future. I love earning money like that!

THing is Claire the woman prob knows where her horses poo, you do not so it will take you longer. And how big is the area you have to cover? If I had to do 3 to 4 barrows I reckon that would easily take me over an hour. Plus you also need to check fencing, and all horses, so that is going up to each horse and checking them over - at least another 20mins work there if you do it properly. Then there is the travel time. Do not sell yourself short!
