How much would you charge?

Sorry you asked what we thought you could charge..................IMHO nothing would be too much. Thus that was my answer.

Only last week with your lame horse post, you proved you have the common sense equal to the average doughnut!!!

BTW I'm entitled to my opinion, you only view it as snide as you don't agree with it.

sorry Sophie but when you post a question regarding charging people for breaking in their animals... you should expect people to question it... i certianly would if you were going to break mine in. As people have said it a open forum.. i never understand why people get nasty and resort to swearing.. its beyond me. You have not done yourself any favours by being like that.

any Qualifications???

Other than a certificate of total incompetence?

oh yes.....i nearly forgot the "its worrying that i actually own a horse" Stage I, II and III

So the horse in my sig....
Thats the 1 I broke in....
And that I ride!
Does he look like he's got someone on his back thats not capable of looking after and riding horses???

Here we go again!!!

Step back............read your posts............then think..............

I don't know you personally, thus can only judge from what YOU have written/posted..................

To me you have come across as incompetent, inexperienced and lacking common sense....................for that you only have yourself to blame, no one forced you to post the pics you have or the comments you have written.

Would I let you anywhere near my horse?? NO

Why do I need to step back and read my posts???

I NEVER mentioned anything else other than a simple question and you just couldn't help yourself but be a spiteful saddo!!

So does my horse looked like he isn't treated right?

You dont answer questions that cant include snidey comments.

Or you could say he shouldn't be ridden as he's a cross breed??!!!

I suspect there hasnt been any involvement, though i may be wrong, and if so, I apologise...

QR:
instead of offering good honest advice certain people here seem to get kicks out of name calling, insults and acting high and mighty. Making a mockery of someone doesnt encourage them fowards to ask for advice or seek help. It doesnt suprise me WHO has made these nasty comments, not in the slightest, because it's becoming a regular pattern.

Maybe, just maybe OP is a little novicey, but so are many other members. And I don't see them being launched upon. Yes, she has made mistakes but I think every mistake has been rectified when it has been pointed out.

What i am suprised about is the amount of name calling and PERSONAL insults going on here recently....

PBS:

you are right, what i do with my laundry has nothing to do with you, just as what someone else arranges to do for a friend has NOTHING to do with you. Quite honestly your posts of recent come across as very sharp and downright nasty. maybe you have personal problems atm, or maybe that's just the way you post but if I were you I would be looking back over my old posts and noting the insults, personal remarks etc made and havinga serious think about how I came across to others.

It isnt pretty...

Gold star to Charlie, saved me a lot of typing

PBS seems to want to be JM's "mini me" and has been acting that way for a while.
Now JM for the most part is far too harsh BUT that lact of tact comes with a wealth of experiance and help(just not in a nice form) so it dosnt bother me.
PBS on th eother hand, seems to want to emulate JM's worst traits without any of the good.

Everyone has made mistakes, some worse then others but as long as we learn from the and no-one (horse or human) is hurt it doesnt matter.
I know for a FACT a lady very well respected by this forum did some shocking things while she was learning, all part of the learning curve.

Did you're mother really never teach you to keep you're mouth shut if you have nothing nice and or constructive to say?
smirk.gif

To OP,what you charge is up to you and you're friend although to be frank, you might be better just offering to be on hand to help you're friend do it then chaarge for a service if you dont have insurance.
Not worth the risk if somehting does go wrong, esp in this day and age where everyone seems to want to sue for somehting!

The man who breaks the youngsters at my yard charges (I believe) for the actual process, rather than per hour. He never rushes the process. And some horses take longer than others.

He spends as much time with the horse at each stage as is needed. So for the first couple of days this may be no more than 30 mins. Getting to know the animal, introducing tack and monitoring the horse whilst it's in the stable getting used to it's tack.

He then moves on to long reining. Once this is established and the horse is being happily long reined in the school and around the farm he then moves on to it being backed. He then brings in an assistant (who he pays) to do the mounted work - whilst he supervises from the floor.

This chap is now in his early 60's and was head lad for one of the big racing yards in Newmarket - so has experience comming out of his ears. It is a joy to watch him with the horses - and he is a true 'nagsman'. The horses love him.

I think it takes a certain type of person to start a horse well. A quiet confidence and an empathetic nature are terribly important I think. We all have to start somewhere, and not everyone can have years of experience under their belt.

But before you proceed - consider very carefully if you think you have the basic skills and understanding that's needed.

I like the idea that a previous poster had of you perhaps being there to assist the owner of the horse, rather than you actually doing the work yourself. This will (I think) prevent you from needing insurances to cover you for the work you are doing, so may be more beneficial for you. I pressume it would also remove you from any liability should anything go wrong.

Thanks for the replies...

Basically, the Mum would do it but she has a broken back, and the daughter isn't very confident.
I dont know them personally but my good friend keeps her horses on the same yard as them.

I actually do know what Im doing belive it or not, I have broken several in successfully.

They make you out to be crap on here!
They twist everything.
I have made a few mistakes, I think you will remember that my mate put the pelham on the wrong way that day, but I was told thats no excuse so technically I put it on wrong!!

And the same with the lunge line on my yearling that my older wiser friend put on him. She said thats how she was taught so I thought we would give it a go. It was only on him as he can be so lazy to walk. We literally walked a few hundred yards down the drive that joins on to a lane and then turned around and walked back.

Can you stop tearing me to pieces. I have asked admin to delete my account cos I can not be arsed with this anymore, so if as JM07 says that most of the people on here think what she says Im not going to bother anymore!!!

This had crossed my mind a few times recently.

Though IMO PBS is just trying to act clever in some attempt to impress JM.

Sad that another forum member has been picked on so much that they feel they have to leave ...

incredibly sad....

A clear and accurate account of the situation if you ask me!!

Dont get me wrong, everyone makes mistakes, but you are not helping yourself sophie by never being gracious when people make suggestions to you - instead you launch back at them with the whole 'you dont even know me argument'. You need to learn that by posting a question on an open forum you are opening yourself up to all opinions whether you like them or not.

May I suggest that rather then throwing your toys out of the pram and asking admin to delete your account, you grow up and learn to accept all opinions and go from there - if you dont agree with some of them then disregard them. Simple as that.

Opinions are one thing but personal insults are totally different!!

Why dont people just answer to the question?
There was no need what so ever to jump on me and put me down.

another argument... soooo unnecessary.. charging for a service comes with many reponsibilities and can form legally binding agreement should something go wrong.

given what has already been said i don't feel i can comment any further than i have.

@ 'Mini Me' comment. For your information and anyone else who has similar ideas, I have no need or desire to 'emulate' JM07. No I'm not going to keep quiet if I don't agree, this is an open forum and if you don't agree with someone you should feel free to post so. I have had 5 PM's from Users saying they agree with my comments, but didn't have the nerve to post it themselves. It's a shame more people don't have the courage to post what they really think!!!

P.S. Love the double standards in your post, that you can dog me whilst saying I shouldn't post unless I'm being nice!!!

_Charlie_ sorry to disappoint you, however the only reason my posts are sometime sharper than others is that I get bored trying sugar coating them.

all i can say is.....

PBS...I taught you all you know...and now you just throw it all back in my face.....dreadful treatment i say...

might just be asking Admin to delete my account!!

i do have to pull you up on one thing though, PBS...is there a problem with emulating to myself???

very disapointed with your comments on that.
