How often do they check passports at BE and BSJA?

I'll be doing my first BE event at the end of July and do some BSJA already, I have never had my passport/flu certificates looked at at BSJA and was just wondering how often they actually get checked at BE events and if anyone's had theirs looked at when BSJAing? I'm not talking about 3days events but BE90/100 and Novice level. Just wondering x
 
I haven't had mine checked yet - I have put mine in a safe place which clearly isnt very safe.. oops

Depends on the event really. I always take mine when I go to secretary's to collect my number and quite a few times they've said 'oh I see you have your passport - good' but then didn't ask to look at it. I wonder if they would have asked to see it if I hadn't taken it with me?

I guess they think every must be fine if you're up front enough to have it in your hand?
 
Yep, I've had mine checked twice now in 3 and a half seasons! Once was only because I had it and the vet saw it was a CHAPS passport and wanted to see the photo

Same here - mine hasn't been looked at for about 2 seasons.
 
Best if I take it to the secretary with me when I do BE then, better to be safe than sorry! I must admit I don't always take my passport with me when I travel my horse to a local dressage show. I do however always take it when doing BSJA and will defo when I go eventing x
 
My passport lives in the lorry as don't forget you are required by law to have it when you are travelling to a competition. You can be stopped and asked for it.
 
My Passport tends to live in my handbag (as I always have it with me) or on the kitchen side! My dad's a policeman and I've told him about it being required by law so he always make's sure I have it when he drives me!
 
Had ours checked for the first time this year (fourth event)

, at Hexham. Course vet went through it pretty thoroughly, checking horses name, colour, as well as vaccs!!!!!!!!!
Don't risk being without it - think of the wasted expense, and all that disappointment!!

I have never had mine checked BSJA, but i used to take it when i collected my number BE.
A few years ago i went to the RC championships and they were checking every passport on the gate on the way in and getting into every wagon to make sure it was the same horse in the passport!! i have never seen anything like it!
 
I have only done two events so far this season and had it checked both times, i always take it when i get my number to save the bother of going back for it. Last year i did about 2 events per months and only didn't get checked once, perhaps i just have a suspicious look about me??!!

I have never had mine checked with BSJA, last time i had it checked BE was Gt Tew 07, other than CIC* at knaptoft.
StupidWaldo as HOYS and the Royal Show they do the same, when your horse is rugged up, got a hood on and bandages not very helpful really.
 
i've had it checked once BE- they just checked the name matched though- didn't actually look inside it! BRC is a totally different kettle of fish though...they sit and look through the dates of all of your jabs from the day dot..and woe betide you if you are 24 hours out- even if it was 7 years ago! you'll get turned around and sent home...

We have been checked twice this season both times the vets were just driving around the boxes maybe getting bored and nothing else to do .
On the legal side I am very friendly with local trading standards boss and have been told they are stepping up passport checks both by stopping vehicles on the road and visiting unannounced at yards,He said any vehicle with horses without passports are being made to return home and not continue on.
 
ive never been asked for my passport (bsja 3 years)

but surely its not a good idea to carry the original in your lorry ! perish the thought your lorrys nicked with your horse on board then it could be sold legally with passport.
wouldnt it be safer to carry a photocopy ??
 
And really, who has ever heard of a lorry being stolen with horses on board?!

Mine lives on the lorry too - it is random BE, some events are hotter than others. BSJA never been asked for it, ditto dressage. RC would probably like copies in triplicate signed by the Prime Minister if they thought they could get away with it....

At Bath and West BE they check and woe betide you if the names do not match - I saw one person sent off to find the vet and the vet had to ring and speak to her vet before she was allowed to get her number!

They can't do that. As you are allowed to transport horses without passports for certain reasons. When I was stopped without mine I got away with it as I was going XC schooling and you are allowed to transport your horse without a passport for the purpose of riding it. But you can't if you are competing.
 
Never done BSJA so cannot comment. Only checked at BE once this year at Stockland Lovell. They held them and got the vet to check through vaccinations. My friend forgot hers and they were very sniffy about it. Only was allowed to compete because my daughter was competing there the following day and ours is a hard to forget name and the event organiser recognised it and forgave her. Gave her a sticky few moments though.
 
Have never had mine checked at mainstream BSJA -have had it checked at Hickstead though.

BE I always used to have them checked thoroughly (caused a few issues when we had our lorry stolen along with passports and they weren't happy to accept duplicate vac certs) However haven't been asked since the new legislation came in- guessing they assume everyone will have passports as it is now law (either that or they are so busy trying to work out how to pronounce my horses name that they get sidetracked!!)
