How often do you get your horse shod?

I have my horse shod every 6 weeks as that's when his feet get too long and the shoes wear out. A friend told me today lots of people at his yard shoe every 8 weeks and one person every 12 weeks. What does everyone else do?

Basically whatever the farrier tells me

with new girl - at the moment every 6 weeks but I need to keep an eye on one particular foot that may need it a week sooner - so far so good!

We normally get a full set between 6-8 weeks.
TBH its only ever the backs that have grown enough, but just easier to get full set each time. They don't get really worn as only do road work once a week, but its just growth that drives the change.
I think our fronts could go 10-12 maybe in the credit crunch era I will get a bit more on top of things!

This is going to vary widley from horse to horse depending on the grwoth rate and hoof quality as well as how much wear there is on the shoe.

My gelding is shod every 4 weeks in Spring - Summer as his feet grow like mad and in Autum - Winter he has been known to go 10 weeks.

My mare on the other hand who hardly grows any foot used to go 10 weeks or more between shoeings. She is now barefoot.

What I want: 6 weeks
What I get (NE Scotland, massive farrier shortage, lucky to have one at all): 8 weeks

:-(

Thankfully only big guy is shod, girlie is barefoot, but big guys hooves are certainly worse than when we moved up in March.

horses should be shod every 4 to 6 weeks. leaving it longer than that is causing excess pressure on the tendons ligaments and joints so shortening the horses life.

horses should be shod whenever theres enough growth to warrent a new set , my tb gelding is six weeks , my other tb is 5 , the mare was 8 weeks , shes now barefoot and loving her pregnancy lol

6 weeks. George could possibly go to 8 but his feet are in good shape right now, partly due to the F4F, and I like to keep them that way. He is susceptible to a bit of cracking sometimes, so I like the farrier to keep a check and he hasn't had any for ages.

Lanky has quite poor feet and I have only had him 6 weeks. His feet are getting better already with regular Kevin Bacon and the wonders of my farrier who's trimmed him shorter as he was way too long before. He hasn't cracked as much this time but one of the backs has a long crack running the length of the shoe. If it gets worse I will have to have Martin out, which is 3-4 weeks since he was last done. He definitely needs 5-6 weekly shoeing.

Every 5 - 6 weeks, no longer than that especially as one of my horses has an old tendon injury and letting his feet grow longer would put added pressure on it. My horses are only shod in front though.
