As title!

I wash mine after every ride as I find it easier then scraping the dried on gunk of every so often, it's also nicer for the horse IMO. So what do you do?

Yep, straight from the horses mouth in to a bucket of water. Every time.

Daily, when the tack gets cleaned, but not after every horse.
Personally, a pet hate, as much as having a dirty bit, is dunking it in a bucket if it means your bridle will get wet, which i try to avoid.

quick rise under the tap - I've had the same bit for 5 years !! a loose ring sweet iron with a copper lozzenge that I got for a tenner at HOYs ! she loves it !

What's a bit?

I used to wash MoM's bit every time - in fact I was a bit ticked off today as we went to ride at friend's place, where MoM is retired to, and they had ridden her yesterday and just hung the bridle up with the bit all covered in chewed grass. She was being ridden again today so I made an obvious show of 'tutting' and washing the bit in the water trough!

My mum did something like this to teach me to do it!! I got my first pony as a 9yo and was useless at remembering to wash the bit after each ride which she thought was horrid. One day she gave me supper along with a fork which had dried on food from days ago - it was so gross. I have washed the bit daily every since...!!

I also wipe my bridle over with saddle soap, and clean my girth every time I use them. *polishes halo*

I use either a leather or a Wintec girth - and ditto. Get's cleaned every time I ride (as does the numnah.

I used to wash the bit after every ride, but i have to confess to getting rather lazy recently

In my defence tho my pony is never allowed to eat with her bit in (huge pet hate!) and rarely has left over food in her mouth to transfer to bit so the only gunck is salvia stuff build up, which yes i know is still icky!

I do scrub it when it gets really guncky and always put it thru the dishwasher when i clean my tack

I always rinse my bits after using them.

I hate seeing skanky bits hanging in the tackroom with bits of dried gunk on them. Eugh, those poor horses.
