How old are you and your horse?

I am 52 and Bert is 6. I realised Bert will be only 21 when I reach retirement age so hope I will be well enough to continue working for many years beyond retirement. I really should have got an older horse. Although I was unfortunate to loose Homey at 20 I have friends with horses that are still going strong at 31. If he makes to 31 I will be 77.

Yeah, this is a weird consideration that I'm always mulling over. I'm 45, my horse is 13 and my companion pony is a similar age, perhaps a bit older. I want another young horse one day but, thinking about it, if my two were to live to around 30, that would make me 62, right (assuming I make it to that), which is a bit old. I need a windfall of a shedload of money in 10 years or so to get a third horse.

A lot of you have multiple horses. What do you do with them? how do you have enough time to look after so many or do you have your own place with land so keep them living out at home.

YO has 6 ranging from 18 months to 31.

Congratulations. I hope that you have many wonderful years with each other. That would have been a more sensible age for me to buy rather than a 5 year old last year.
I don’t understand why you think that? For me it’s 49 & 26 although I hope to buy a 5/6 year old next year. It’s never occurred to me to worry about his age when I retire? Am I missing something ☺️
