I'm 60 this month, pony is 18 and has various ailments. Desperately want another but 2 x costs = can't retire when I intend to as keep at livery yard...
Dont read my comment thenYeah, this is a weird consideration that I'm always mulling over. I'm 45, my horse is 13 and my companion pony is a similar age, perhaps a bit older. I want another young horse one day but, thinking about it, if my two were to live to around 30, that would make me 62, right (assuming I make it to that), which is a bit old. I need a windfall of a shedload of money in 10 years or so to get a third horse.
You are absolutely right of course. I lost Homey at 20 and we all thought he was a really tough pony who would be around for many years to come he was to be my last horse. He had no metabolic issues and was sound it was his stomach that stopped working sadly.
I hope Bert and I have many years together I love him so much but there is no guarantees.
