How old were you when you got your first horse?

Sister had her first pony at 6, and I had mine at 9 (we're 3 years apart, so got them pretty much in the same summer).

They were the first in a long line of entirely unsuitable ponies :D

I had loans from about 12 untill 16. I borrowed money from my grandpa as soon as i got a job (litterally) and bought my wonderfull mare who I had the best 12 years of my life with!! Lost her in may due to a broken leg :(

I am now proud owner of the lovely diva in my profile pic, If I have half as much fun with her ill be delighted! :)

I started riding at 3 but had to wait 20 years to get my first horse!! My mum wasn't horsey so told me I'd have to wait until I could afford one myself and able to look after it myself!! She possibly thought it was a faze, who knows. When I moved out I got my first boy and now have 2 and an equestrian property. Think she now realises it wasn't a faze!! Hoping to get my 16 month old daughter a pony for when she's about 3 and can experience pony club! I always had to sit and watch my friends at rallies etc. :(

26 - i'd been a groom all my life then realised if i ever wanted to own one i'd have to get a higher paid job - so got an office job - saved up for a few years until i had enough to buy a ned (and could afford to keep it with all other bills = mortgage etc) then bought HRH :D

I started to ride on my own at 3 on a 30 year old retired grocery delivery pony and rode him until I was 7. I bought my first very own horse, well TB filly foal, in 1987 and she is responsible for all the rest!

Love this thread :)

I was 7 when we got Blue - i had a lovely loan pony called Lady at the time, then when i was nine Blue became all mine :)

Sister was about two and a half when Mum rescued some poines that became hers!!

Started riding (properly - as in having lessons as opposed to cadging rides off friend's horses/ponies) when I was 37, took on a share when I was 42, bought Kal when I was 45. I'm living proof that it's never too late to fulfill a childhood dream.

14 but he had to be sold when i was 17 due to financial difficulty (parents)
Had a gap of 14 yrs,worked at a yard inbetween.then i bought my own at 29 ( 31 nxt mth)

I was 33, had an unbroken 3 yr old bought for me to break in and ride when i was 17 and worked at the trekking stables but she wasn't actually mine:( Now i have 2 horses and daughter has 2 ponies, when my dad asks why i 'need' so many i tell him I'm making up for all the horseless years;)

7 she was my christmas present. She was fabulous and taught all of us to ride and even taught my brother to walk. she would stand stock still in the garden, my brother would crawl up to her and grab her tail, haul himself up and she would walk on 2 little steps and he would follow her, then fall down!

We had for for 21 years- she was at least 18 when we got her (at the very least!!)!!

Fifteen when I finally got my own having worked begged and borrowed for years, she was a disaster convinced she'd been drugged when we tried her, second one died six months after I got him after a reaction to the flu jab third I got when I was seventeen who was a dream come true still have him nineteen years later!

My parents had a shetland stallion they showed in hand before they had me, so by default he was about from when I was a baby. The first pony I had bought for me was when I was 4- we still have him 16 years later.

umm we had her before i was born.. i sat on her at 6months old and been riding since!! we still have her now, although she's on loan to another little girl and they're getting on fine :)
little sister was 5 months old when she sat on a pony and been riding since too!!!
we were both hunting, pony club and local shows when we were 2!!
as you can guess i'm from a very horsey family!! :p
