Last year my friend decided put her little 12.2hh NFx to Bertie's Dad (sec D x) and see what happens.
She was due today, and this is what arrived at 7am this morning!!!
He's lovely!
What colour do you think he will go?
His dad's mum is a palamino and his dad is grey, and his grandad is appalossa sp?
We don't know about the dam's parents.

Sorry for photo overload but my computer wouldn't let me use the address bar for links. The address bar is empty?!

Heres the new addition Buster!

Heres a little video!

This is Maisie, she has also got the same Dad as Bertie and Buster and same friend owns her lol!
She's a yearling. But her colouring is exactly the same as Daddy!
This was her when she was born

And now-Sire's colour

So any ideas?
Again Im sorry for the pic overload!

No idea about colour..but i'd be quite worried about his near front pastern/fetlock if he were mine..............

I would say he'll go grey.
The pastern is a little slack, but not worth panicking over, as long as foalie gets resticted exercise and plenty of rest it'll strenghten up quicker than you think

We aren't worried about his joints for a min, those pics were taken when he was only a few hours old. Thanks for the comment JM07, can always rely on you to nit pick can't I !!!!

Thanks FL, I always forget about the breeding section!

He's lovely! I was kissing him on the nose by 1pm! So he's a brave little man!
She's told me I have got 1st refusal on him lol.
I can't buy anymore.
Ive just sold 1!!!
His legs are a really light gold colour!

You don't think that some of the comments in that post aren't rude? God I wouldn't like to see you being rude then!!
Each to their own?
Im sure she will find a buyer for him!

it's "cuckoo" with a "K".....

as for finding a buyer...

i no doubt they will..

lets hope its gelded at some point...

and no, nothing there that could be perceived as rude...

sheesh...some folk live sheltered lives...................

Do you know, without wanting to be rude I agree with KM07, although it could probably be put more diplomatically.

A section D x NF was probably not the best idea in the world, and at the moment from those pics the foal isn't the greatest looking thing I've ever seen. Sounds like a 'whim' of breeding rather than a plan which is never a good idea. Why not use a NF stallion?

I think the stallion was a x breed (sec D x) ?

If my thoughts are worth anything (which i doubt they are
blush.gif
) I really don't agree with cross breeding UNLESS the foal can be registered as a x breed, ie the stallion is licenced... and the thought that someone might breed 'just to see what popped out' is IMO very very sad

cute foal, not the best confo in the world. would have stood a better chance in life if it were coloured... (at least the gypsies would have given them £100 for it..)

Colour wise, probably grey.

oooo me please!

To the OP I know nothing about foal conformation etc etc so wont pass comment but he is incredibly cute!

Fizz please QR!

In my opinon *clears throat* The popcorn should be sweet and not salted

No seriously, fair enough all foals are cute in one way or another, fair enough everyone is allowed their opinon, but there was no need for JM07 to say fugly, and maybe it wasnt the best mix, or the best reason (from what we've heard) but that is the responsibility of the breeders

I don't understand the animosity. You have to cross breed otherwise you end up in a right mess, look at all the homozygous conditions in over bred horses like Arabs. If both parents are decent and sound the offspring has a great chance of a successful working life whether it is registered or not. It makes a lot more sense to produce a foal like this who could make a nice fun pony than line breeding crappy animals ie mares that need caslicks every time or because you can't do anything else with them because they are unsound or psycho.

There are thousands of licenced stallions around, so it's actually quite easy to NOT breed crap. No-one's saying that this foal isnt cute, or it won't have a fulfilling life as a nice kid's pony, but go look at a photo of a foal out of a KNOWN stallion (which is licenced having been vetted for good conformation, temperament, heart etc ) and compare. If you breed from something with conformation or health problems (which a high proportion of unlicenced stallions may have - Hence why they're not licenced ) you're just breeding more problems. Sure, a horse doesnt need great conformation to be ridden etc, but it makes very little sense IMO to breed from a mixbreed stallion 'just to see what pops out'...

anyway, just my opinion....

Examples please. What do you mean you HAVE to cross breed?

Twaddle. What a ridiculous argument. There are PLENTY of decent, sound REGISTERED and GRADED horses to breed from without resorting to the 'crappy animals' you describe. And no matter how huffy you get about it, the fact is a registered foal is at an immediate advantage to the unregistered foal on the market.
And FYI MY mare is one of those 'crappy' mares that need caslicks and yes, she IS registered and pregnant to a registered WB and the foal will also be registered. I think that makes ME a responsible breeder.

Nothing against Sophie's friend, but unfounded arguments and sniping just irritate the hell out of me.

Hi Sophie
smile.gif
, I'd say the foal is most likely going to be grey, judging by the muzzle and the fur around the eyes. The foals legs would definitely be of concern to me, sorry.

Wildspirit; I really have to disagree with your comment about it being the breeders responsibility as to what they breed, especially when it comes to breeding horses of unknown parentage/origin. The only time this comes into effect is if the breeder has taken a commitment to keeping the foal for the whole of it's life or if the sire and dam are of good conformation and temperament so as to produce (in the very least) a pleasant and nicely put together riding horse, otherwise a badly put together animal of lesser breeding (in particular) does run a greater risk of ending up somewhere unsavoury. Breeders should try to be responsible for what they breed, but sadly many don't care, as the auction houses show testament to
confused.gif
.

Sophie, I'd love to see photos of this littley in a couple of weeks time, because I know some foals do come out looking incredibly peculiar. Your friend's foal may straighten up, as the dam looks to be a nice sort.
