My yard is horrified at my poor horse, who was last clipped in october, out with a 370g no neck

What are yours all turned out in?

As it is snowing heavily here in lovely Norfolk, mine are out in 450g heavy-weight rugs with full necks, for a leg stretch, they will be coming back in shortly!

Mine is in at night with a 420g rug with a full neck & 100g under rug!!!

t is horrible and cold here too. One of mine, clipped out, has a 300g full neck rug on. The other hairy cob just has a medium no neck rug on. I am also looking after someone elses horse this weekend and she is clipped and is out with 300g no neck rug on. Its up to you what you feel your horse needs to wear in the field, not anyone else

well buster has his heavyweight mark i think its about 400g with a neck but he is fully clipped! rupert has a little bib clip but has a fleece and about a 250-300g rug on but he is cute and spoiled!

Hattie was last clipped Nov (blanket) is in a rain sheet. She is in that all the time except if it goes to about -5 or below when I put a 220g MW rug on.
Gyp is in a rain sheet during the day and a 220g MW at night, unless it is really warm over night (above 9oC) when he will stay in the rain sheet. He was last clipped (blanket) start of Feb.
They both live out 24/7.

Mine are out 24/7
Unclipped ISH - 70g with neck
Unclipped halfinger - 100g with neck although he's normally naked, rug is just to keep him clean

Blanket clipped pony - 200g with neck
Fully clipped pony - 70g with neck

Unclipped native in 200g MW rhino wug out 24/7. When I checked him yesterday he was not that warm under it but it was very cold. I only have MW and LW rugs so its is warmest I have!

19yr old TB - full neck 450g rug
3yo Shire x TB - full neck 350g
2yo 3/4 TB - full neck 350g

Mine live out 24/7, none are clipped, and I change their rugs according to the weather.

Fully clipped boy is out with a medium weight rug on (350g I think) - only just changed him out of his lightweight and then only done cos the lightweight isnt terribly waterproof. He is in at night.

Mummy and foaly are both out naked with a big pile of hay and are both happy as can be. Out 24/7.

Blimey never though yours would need rugging!!.................I always assumed it would be very hot where you are!!!!

Well mine is out in a very light stable rug, medium quilted stable rug and a heavy weight with a neck. Its 0c here, chucking it down with snow and windy. She lives out 24/7 and its damn cold out there. She is warm and toasty and is no where near sweating. She does feel the cold but she will be checked in a couple of hours and if she is too hot then I'll take off the medium stable rug.

two year old tb lightweight at night and on rainy days like today , he wintered out mostly without one since he was born

tb old gelding is out on vets advice and is fully clipped so he has a rambo full neck heavy at night and a medium weight during day

other tb mare is in at night and has masta medium weight on today and high neck 300 grn stable at night

Mine are both out 24/7 with field shelter. My old mare is unclipped & has on a thick duvet & a Weatherbeeta heavyweight orican with full neck. My ISH is clipped & is wearing his snuggy hood, duvet & FAL Goliath heavyweight silver interactive with full neck.

He wasn't best pleased to have his hood on yest cos he thought he'd finished looking like an equine smurf for this winter!!!

Well ours have come in because the snow is tipping down here in Kent. They are usually out 20 hours a day though.

Bodey (fully clipped cob) out in a HW Mark Todd with neck cover.

Rubin (not clipped WB) out in a MW Fal with neck cover.

Badger (not clipped Fjord) out in a LW Mark Todd with neck cover. More to keep him clean then anything else.

They live above ground hence why I have to rug them...they are used to warmer, hot and steamy environments
wink.gif

But two of them are black....if that helps restore my image?

It's nice in Herefordshire (don't shoot me!) Sunny with just the odd flurry (5 mins) of snow.

IDxTB tiny bib clip 100g no neck
Highland unclipped, nothing

One of mine is fully clipped and has a medium weight no neck out in field and medium weight with neck at night. My 3 year old who is unclipped has a rainsheet in field and medium weight at night and my native mare (who is in foal) goes bare - shes really woolly. When the sun shines I turn them out with nothing as they love a good roll and the sun on their backs! I do have heavier rugs, especially for the fully clipped one but he always gets hot underneath and I hate that.

Phew, that makes sense!!!

My TB (fully clipped) has a 300g full neck plus a 200g underneath - is bloody cold here and windy and I don't want my poor boy to get a chill

One fat cob, unclipped - Naked! No hard feed. Am struggling here to be cruel to be kind but we haven't any snow and the sun is now out.

My boy is full clipped and has his medium weight full neck on and a lighter medium weight over the top. He is a bit poofy and has a few cat hairs that have grown since he was clipped so obviously been cold at some point. He lives out most of the time but has been in the last few nights as he hasn't got much shelter out in his field.
He looks happy enough though...

Maiden (overweight semi-retired IDx) - nothing, only her layers of blubber which keep her toasty!
Darcy (4yo warmblood x TB, skinny beast) - nothing, although somehow she is putting on weight.
Libby (3yo warmblood, not too skinny) - nothing.
All out 24/7, the only shelter they have is a thick hedge and I put their hay piles along the hedge line so they can shelter and eat.
If Maiden were still in work and stabled and clipped, she'd be out with a 370g with a neck. I only ever put full neck rugs on when it is precipitating, be that rain/ sleet/ snow/ hail/ cats/ dogs.

Mine is out for a few hours druing the day but the old lass has a heavyweight turnout with her stable rug underneath, lovely and snug.
