Did anyone watch this on More4 after Crufts. I thought it was a pretty good programme, really promoted people going to responsible breeders (or rescues). Some horrible footage of puppy farms, also a protest outside a pet superstore in Manchester, suspect it was the one discussed in here a while ago. The originator of labradoodles was on, saying how he felt he had opened a Pandoras Box regarding all the designer breeds which could produce undesirable traits from both parents. There was a lovely husky at DT, been handed in because hadn't had enough exercise and trashed the house. Don't know if it will be repeated but worth keeping an eye open for it .

I thought it was very good but they could have made more of the designer dog thing and been more explicit about the fact that these dogs are not breeds and if you are paying 700 quid upwards for a cross you are being ripped off.

I also thought it was a shame that the pitbulls they showed were made out to be maneaters when they can in fact be perfectly nice pets - my friend in the US has one.

Yes, thought it was quite a thought provoking programme.

The two bitches from the puppy farm, were heartbreaking.

Stunning, stunning dog.

I think perhaps one of the points they were trying to make was that the DDA was unsucessful - and that how certain types of breeds were used as status and attack dogs. It was also used to highlight the type of back street breeding that is going on.

My friend in the US has 3 of them. Interestingly, they look nothing like the dogs we are seeing here - but I suppose that goes to show that there is no breed 'standard' for them (perhaps).

Sounds familiar. I didn't catch the program, will keep an eye out for the repeat but I'm glad they used a husky as an example. I hope they showed lots of scenes of destruction to put people off. :p

Hi I'm new to this site.
What bothered me about this programme was that they kept showing Staffordshire Bull Terriers when talking about dangerous dogs, when they are in fact lovely dogs.

To me they weren't informing the uninitiated that most dogs would have a good temperament with the right handling.

I did think some of the ones they were calling pit bulls looked more like bad specimens of staffies. The trouble is there are so many bad examples of staffies out there people forget what the breed is really like. My son couldn't believe the size of the staffy in the terrier group, thought it was far too small, I pointed out that the staffies he knows are really bad specimens conformation wise (though great temperaments) which is why they sometimes get identified wrongly as PBs.:(

I thought this was a very informative programme which covered almost everything.
I am pleased they showed the puppy farms which were heartbreaking and the image of that Border Collie bouncing off the walls will stay with me for a very long time.

Did anyone else think that the kennel Club seemed to be trying to make ammends for their lack of effort in the past. To me they seemed more proactive.

It was the white GSD that got to me, she looked like she had given up.:( The KC are definitely making an effort, better late than never, I didn't agree with the Panorama programme on a lot of things but at least gave the KC the kick up the bum they needed. They still have a long way to go in my opinion, for instance they should make sure Accredited Breeders only use dogs with low scores /clear results in relevant health tests for their breed. At the moment as long as they do health tests that is all that matters, so if an ABs GSD has a hip score of 90 the KC still allow them to breed from it.
