Really not sure how to go about this, me pony is DREADFUL with clippers (pretty bad with most things due to bad start but we're working on it) but currently resembles a polar bear and seeing as we hunt etc and he is in very hard work its not good.
The obvious choice would be sedation, but I know that he sweats up loads sedated so is this just a no? he had his teeth done a couple of months ago and was sedated for it and he was really really sweaty all over so I am guessing this would happen again?
I do want to get him properly desensitised to clippers as he's pretty good at learning things are ok given some time to think about it all (three or 4 weeks hopefully) BUT my clippers are very loud which won't help and I'm really worried about only managing half of him at once then getting stuck! It is a problem I want to sort as will be much more convenient in the long run, just so worried about having a half clipped pony though!
Not sure of best option, but would full sedation given the sweaty situation be a waste of time and money?
Thank you everyone in advance, sorry if I'm just being stupid!

Sedation is ok in your situation if you and someone else can clip your horse at the same time to get the job done quicker. We had a mare who was terrified of clippers. I bought some of the Wahl trimmers which run on battery or can be plugged in. I clipped just her neck and chest with them, took a while but they are very quiet and she gradually got used to them. I used to stand her next to our other horse who didnt mind clippers so she got used to hearing them. Over time she got used to the clippers, trusted me enough and I was able to clip her with normal clippers.

Another option would be to sell your loud clippers and buy some quieter ones. The battery operated ones seem to be quieter and with there being no electric cable involved, may be safer. Lots of polos and patience needed too.

Good luck!

I think I read on here once that someone recorded the sound of the clippers and played it over and over which helped the situation.

I always gave mine a hay net to nibble on.
