So does anyone have any secrets? Aside from chalking, is there a trick of the trade that I don't know? I've armed myself with a slightly cheaper shampoo so I can do a double wash but I really have no idea how to do it properly? Would it be wrong to use vanish on his tail?

Many thanks!

Use a bit of washing powder dissolved in warm water or a squirt of washing liquid, just be careful to really rinse it out well and don't use it too often. Then chalk while wet and brush out when totally dry.

If you just want to use horse shampoo, NAF Teatree shampoo brings my boys socks and tail up sparklingly, even when they're covered in poo, grass or sand stains!

wash with cheap shampoo and then soak tail in hot water & vanish oxy action!!

With the socks cowboy magic is good

Hi - I've found that human Schwarzkopf (maybe spelt wrong) silver shampoo works wonderfully. Just apply as usual & leave on for 5 mins if poss. Afer rinsing chalk etc as above. Leaves grey horses gleaming!! Hands may also be slightly purple lol

I have very white, very fluffy legs to contend with, as you can see from my sig.

I use warm water with Fairy Liquid mixed with Ariel Excel Gel for a first wash. Do one leg, then leave to soak and do the other leg. When the 2nd leg is done go back, rinse leg 1, go to leg 3, leaving leg 2 to soak, etc.
Once they're all rinsed... I do a second wash with QuicSilver purple whitening shampoo. Do the same as with the first wash, leaving one to soak whilst doing the next leg.
Then I put some conditioner on them and leave that for ten minutes whilst doing something else. Rinse the conditioner and towel dry the legs. Add chalk and bandage/wrap. I know some people don't use chalk on feathers but I find it make such a difference. Brush off when dry, show shine, a bit of Gold Label show white paste to touch up any knees/hocks that are still stained.

Similar process with the tail, mane and forelock.

Chaps, yep, lol! I work most weekends so have to book my days off for shows, but I have to book both full days off as it takes sooo long to get him sparkling! lol! I wouldn't change him for the world though, it's always been my dream to have a traditional show cob!

Head and shoulders shampoo for humans works really well (also works well if you use a temp colour on your own hair and you dont like it, it will strip the colour back out really quickly)
I have a grey horse and it brings her up gleaming white

wash as normal, then when the legs are damp put chalk powder on.
