Any top tips please?!

I leave mine pretty much untouched until the morning of day I need to use them, then I clean them out with a farriers nail & wire brush & plug them with a cotton plug coated in vaseline and load my horse.

When I get out the other end I just take the plugs out & attempt to screw in my SupaStuds but it's never an easy job especially if the edges of the hole are burred.

Can anyone give me any advice for making this job easier please.

I always keep mine plugged with as much cotton wool and vaseline as I can fit in (pushed in with a farriers nail) from the minute the farriers left. Think that helps them the most. I check its still packed when picking out feet daily to make sure I havent lost any, but if you really squeeze them in its unlikely!!!

Then just pick them out with the nail when I get there, tap them, being super carefull to not cross the thread (as that what makes it hard to get them in and more likely to loose them) and whack the studs in, tighten, done!!!

Cigarette filters soaked in oil to plug them :)

Always retap the day before needing them :)

Brilliant thank you, I'll take a bit more care of them as soon as they are done in future.

With regards to tapping I use SupaStuds & thought they were self tapping so apart from cleaning the holes I never do anything with the thread,do you think this is where I'm going wrong? I'm always afraid of making a wonky thread or something so I never even try.

Supa studs are self tapping, but you have to most of the dirt out of the hole, and make sure that the little slots on the sides of the stud have been cleaned out before you try and insert them.

I tend to have a tap handy, because if the start of the thread has got worn, or been crossed by me screwing the stud wrong way its easier to use the tap to sort it. The tap is also good if any grit is stuck in the thread.

I also find it easier to put the Travel Studs (from Supa Studs) in before we leave and just swap them at the show. My farrier says that they are so small they won't cause any problems travelling.

I use cotton wool soaked in WD40 to plug the holes between events.

Just one thing, don't leave the travel studs in for any length of time. I forgot to take them out once, went away with work for a few days and when I came back they had worn away and enough to be impossible to remove.

SupaStuds are easier, faster and safer to use than any other stud on the market. What makes them so special? SupaStuds are:

•Completely self-cleaning – no need to tap*
•Specially hardened – tougher than tungsten
•Rust resistant
*NOTE: SUPASTUDS ARE NOT SELF-TAPPING STUDS, THEY DO NOT RUIN THE THREAD IN YOUR STUD HOLES! THEY ARE SIMPLY DESIGNED TO CLEAN THE HOLE AS THEY SCREW IN, NOT TO RE-THREAD IT.

From the supastuds website, they aren't self tapping as such, they just clean the hole as they go in...
