Hows everyone coping with this rain n wind ?

Fed up of it to be honest! Have kept horses in a couple of times last week or so as field is exposed, has no natural shelter and don't want area near gateway becoming too much like a bog. Yard owners are great though and they had put down chippings etc in summer to prepare for winter which has stopped it from becoming deep. But just beyond that area it is getting quite wet in heavy rain and don't want to make the situation worse with horses trudging through especially when there is a sudden heavy downpour and the surface water can't drain away quickly.
Not only that but the horses don't seem to like the heavy rain and wind either and just sulk near the gate.
Have managed to get out and ride though in the weather. Went out on my cob with a friend yesterday morning and managed to beat that awful heavy rain we got later in the day thank goodness although I did return to yard with soaking jods lol.

Getting fed up of it now. Horse is grand, out on a big hill, hooleying about and keeping himself fit, acting like a big daft youngster when he's not. I am chuffed off, trying to work on XC at the mo but everywhere is waterlogged. So very aware horse is keeping himself mega fit whilst I am sitting at a desk, cue me looking a big old t|t when we get out hunting next

Riding the 4 year old this morning before work when it wasn't quite light was interesting to say the least. This is awful but I love the day after hunting because he has the day off and I don't have to ride in the hurricane or rain.

He is out all day in a field with not a huge amount of shelter but he has an excellent rug and I think if he can get used to gales in the field, he should be able to cope when I'm riding him. Things are never that simple though are they?!!! I just want to be able to ride in the morning and there be not a whisper of wind or drop of rain!!

Still - don't have anything to complain about really compared to Cumbrians at the moment. Must remember that next time the bog roll pony bucks me off!

QR - Whilst the weather is far from ideal,

I find it is surprisingly ok in my fields. The wind is a p.i.t.a, BUT, it is not cold at all, and is drying up the rain fantastically. In between the downpours it is often blue skies here

I wish the horses wouldn't be looning about in it quite so much,

but the mud is minimal and they are more than happy and dry. Their hay(lage) is in hay hutches, so it doesn't get wet, or blow away, and I'm not yet on to my winter grazing as the current paddocks are holding up ok

I feel very sorry for the people who are suffering flooding. I hope things look better for them soon. x

oh and also three wet dogs, can't move in there, good job it's big, running out of clothes to put on, anyone else??

I've managed to ride nearly every day, but I think I might have to give it a miss tomorrow as gale force winds forecast and by the sound of it now outside it's already started!!

I'm fed up too!
I look like i've cr**ped myself walking down the field trying to stay on my feet! It's so muddy and slippy.
The wind is relentless and I've gone off riding completley this week. Got a lesson tomorrow in the outdoor school which should be fun!!! LOL
Tawnys thrown a front shoe this evening probably over- reaching in the mud so need that putting back on in morning.
I'm not a fair weather rider but this is taking the mickey!

Our fields are underwater so no turn out...judging from the river tonight and the amount of rain lashing down right now I doubt I will be able to get to the yard tomorrow

But the horses are warm and dry and my house is safe so I am one of the lucky ones
