As in the buckle end, do you have a certain side which it needs to flop over the neck, either to the left or the right?

It really annoys the hell out of me if it flops over the right, just doesnt feel right, is that weird, or anybody else the same.

Mine hang to the right "so to speak".

is it anything to do with the hand you write with???? I am left handed so i like mine on the other side does this theory work with everyone else???

Hmmm that's interesting, so if your right handed you tend to like the reins to flop to the left and vice versa? (sorry you can tell I'm bored at work can't you)

Oh thankfully its just not me then, I've always been like it since I was little but I was thinking about it when I was riding on Saturday, the reins on the Py are what I'd call annoyingly short and were really bugging the hell out of me, I like them long enough to flop properly down the side of the shoulder, hence why I kept noticing and having little argument with myself (as you do) why the hell it matters....I thought I was going a bit mad!

Then I realised that i don't ride with my thumbs directly on top, well following the line of the rein, as they turn in a bit, how many other people ride like this? its a bad habit I know but is it really that important? just wondered what everyone else thought.

I'm right handed and reins hang to the left. My left thumb stays on top, right tends to turn in, I think it's because I have my reins on the left that right thumb turns in, the reins are more at an angle that way (from right thumb to hanging down left side) so maybe that's why? Did that make sense

I can't say I've ever thought about it and I can't even picture now how I have them

. I'm mainly left handed but a bit ambidextrous so maybe I let them swing both ways.

Oh and I do very weird things with my hands, they stay on top if you think of it from side to side, but they sort of lean forward so they're not on top if you think of it from front to back. I am always getting told off for it and my instructor says he's never seen anyone do it before, he's even tried to hold his hands like me just to try to understand why I do it and says it's really painful!

definatly to the lefy....right is just wrong!!!
I think its just habit...im right handed but hold a shavings fork or a broom like a lefty....
wierd i know!

Definitely not the too-much-time option, I promise!!

It just feels odd to me - a bit like trying to cross your arms the wrong way or writing with the wrong hand - such a silly thing really but I'm glad I'm not alone!!

Reins on left and stick in left hand and I'm right handed.

But apparently I'm weird putting the bridle on - i stand on the offside - anyone else do this ??

To the right...

I always flop them over the right to get on so they're not in the way and thats usually where they stay...
Having said that...I usually ride holding the buckle

Genuinely makes no difference at all to me - I have other things to think about when riding! You lot have too much time on your hands - or OCD, one of the two..

well actually I just noticed because the horse I was riding had rather short reins so I noticed it because it felt annoying.
