this was yesterday, the first day I've practised the test on him. It's Introductory A.

made a mistake about halfway through because I forgot what I was doing, haha please excuse that!

I'm just basically looking for some pointers on what I'm doing right and wrong, and what I should aim to work on over the next couple of weeks, as I've never done dressage before and can honestly say I haven't got much of a clue!

My reins are too long really and he's quite lazy - but I'm hoping to get the spurs out soon, hopefully! I can use spurs in a dressage test yes? (British Riding Club rules).

Our walk to trot transitions are appauling. Help is much appreciated! The movement is trot then walk for a 'horse's length', then back to trot. How long is a horse's length approximately? At the moment I'm aimlessly guessing :p

So, I'm looking for some HTIs basically and pointers on what's good (if anything!) and what's bad.

Also, do I need to change my whip over in the test? I often forget so it might just be easier to ride without if it's required to change it over.

- excuse the commentary from my sister! she gets rather bored :p

Thank you! xx

No help whats so ever, just thought i'd say i love your pony, they're gorgeous, and i love the music at the beginning that was contibuted by your sister. lol.
and if it helps i didnt swap my whip over as apparently you are judged on how the pony goes not what your doing on top :)
but i may be completely wrong here;)

OK, the pony has a good rythm and seems to be going forward nicely, it is difficult to test the accuracy but it looked ok to me.

A horses length is 4/5 steps, don't worry overly much about it though, an approximation is fine.

You will need to ditch that martingale, the pony does not look like she needs it anyway so I am wondering why you even have it. Please do not wear spurs for an Intro test, the pony does not need them from what I can see on the video, and as a judge, my first thought is that riders at intro have no business wearing spurs, hell I hate to see them in Prelim classes too!

Nothing much wrong with the transitions for that level and there is no need to swap your whip over.

Agree with the above - I've done Intro A and by the looks of it you should do absolutely fine. Practice with your transitions and ride as accurately as you can.

It sounds obvious but it's easy to forget: my only real advice is to enjoy it!

My only advice would be to slow down a bit. There is a difference between impulsion and speed and sometimes your pony looks like it's running slightly. Other than that lots of nice parts with rhythm...

Good luck, you'll be fine
