Yes or No? (sorry Tia, just looked at your post, so had to make a post about it

I personally think its fine, Douglas is a very human name, dont know any horse called it, but i love it, it suits his cheeky character. I use Doug when im talking about him in general, Douggie for when he is being cheeky, and Douglas for when he is bad

Do you think its okay for horses to have human names?

(Tia, i dont mean it offensive to you, i was just curious as ive never thought about human names for horses before

I like human names for pets. I have Daisy, cats called Willow and Dave plus guinea pigs called Rosie and Hilda.

A little embarrassing at the vets explaining your piggie is called Hilda but I like human names for them.

Yes love them, especially ones like Gordon, Dennis, Bill, Bob and of course Bodey (even though it should be spelt Bodie).

I also named Ella, the girl-ier the names the better.

My NF is called Molly but I see that as more of an animal name than a human name though(no offense to anyone called Molly!) I only called her that because the dealer had been calling her Dolly!

There's a horse at the yard called Arthur and he sooo doesn't look/act like an Arthur! PMSL. It doesn't bother me TBH.

we have a
ruby
harold
daniel and a
jeffrey

and they suit them very well.

(the non-human names are pippin and mungo.)

A friend of mine has human names for nearly all her horses I took my daughter round there once and introduced her to a mare with the same name 'Amy'

Edited to say, I had an iguana called Albert once

Both of mine have 'human' names! Jack and Suzie. My old ponios have had names like buster, silver or toffee!
My cat and dog both have 'human' names too, Holly and Poppy.
I dont have anything againt horse or human names.whatever suits them !

Pony called Frankie (its a boy so normally just Frank!)-forgetting the welsh name which I can now pronounce and spell!

Cat is Squishy not human I know but great fun when it had to go the vets after being run over (it was absolutely fine obviously bounced as home same day) got called this as he was at a yard with lots of kids when finding nemo came out and Dory had a pet jellyfish called squishy! hes black so my mum wanted to change it to sooty but that was boring.

I dislike human names for horses. I've known an Eddie, Vera, Molly, Alice, Stuart, Rosie, Ella, Larry(!), Freddie, Philippa (!!) Megan, Felicity(!!!), Emily, Bob, Tasha and Billie Jo. Bad horse names IMO!

Edited as I thought of more!

Mine were Rosie (she already had it)
And Phoebe which i chose it suited her so much!
Although i normally am not the biggest fan of proper human names on animals. My brothers dog (a girl) is called Basel now that makes you feel silly shouting it across the park, i guess it better than the cat Valentine!!!!!!

I like human names for animals.

My horse is Jake (he was already called that and knows his name)
My cat is Willow, the feral cat is Bill - again already named at the rescue centre.

I like the name Dave for a dog

OH says he would like to have spaniels called ... Daniel the Spaniel and Nathaniel the spaniel.

I also had a cat called Cleo (sadly RIP) named by the rescue centre.

I had 3 hens, Clara, Flora and Daisy.

So I am all for it!

I usually got the job of giving stable names to the youngsters, and have ended up with a variety of different ones including Lucy, Bessie, Thomas (each yard I've been in, I've had a Thomas), Samuel, William, Edward, Henry, George and Charles.

Ted (Teddy, was called Edward as a foal by his breeders)
Lady - does that count as human, again named by breeder

Daisy
Zak
Little Ed (only little because he's a foal). His full handle is Bowling Green First Edition - because he is the first foal to be born and eligible for the prefix.

Our dog is called Henry.
I can't say as how I'm overly bothered. I'd much rather a grey called Ted than being yet another Misty, Cloudy, Silver etc etc.

I'm not mad on human names for horses. My 'horse of a lifetime', the one in my siggy was called Raymond. He was called that when I got him. I thought of changing his name but when I first got him I did a stage whisper across the field and he immediately answer to it!

I've known lots of Rosies and on our yard we also have a Bruce and an Eric (!!!). I prefer 'horsey' names really, but Eric actually suits Eric! I knew a polo pony once as well... they all had lovely Spanish names cos they have come over from Argentina, then this one was called Bob!

My horses are called Abi, Ruby, Florence and Rupert!

The dogs are Bertie and Jess

And the cats are Kat and Alfie, Dennis, and Dawn and May (we play the eastenders naming game for the cats!!! hahaha)!!

My old pony was called RabbieDan after his owners Robert and Daniel.
My current pony is called Ali after my favourite footballer of all time and new horse is JohnPat.
