Won't go in to all the history it's been long and stressful and i suspect that if this was my first post I'd be accused of living under a bridge:o also in light of current post about poor pony being left tied and breaking a leg, the lesson of which was very fresh in my mind.
So.. Few days ago new person arrived at yard where friend's horse is kept and where I've been helping out with exercising horse's etc all winter but recently have fallen out with YO so I only go there now if I'm riding ASBO for my friend. I was told that the young pony which had just arrived had dreadful hooves .. As in long and turned up, but not to comment as YO is very pally with owner. Anyhow took ASbo cob for a hack and got back to find the pony short tied to a tree in a hedgerow. About 2 feet of rope so it couldn't graze and rope was secured well above it's head to a tree branch. Little creature was frantic when we got back and it can see two strange horses one of which is neighing loudly. The horses looked as surprised as we were I think! It had been on it's own for at least an hour and half by this time. In what equine care book is it ok to do something like this! Both the people responsible (hah) are experienced  horse owners.
By the time those responsible got back it would have been left tied up for over two hours. Yours truly one very pissed off and cross poster.
P.S.
And I did have a look at it's feet and they are a disgrace and will take a fair amount of work to get them in a sound balanced state.

Well going by the previous post it's perfectly acceptable because you know, they don't intend for anythign bad to happen..

Well my views on leaving a horse tied up unsupervised are on record. In this particular case it sounds particularly negligent. As for the feet, well maybe there's a plan to get them sorted. Whatever the case, it's not a great way to treat an animal.

SusieT, you really are lovely aren't you. Regardless on your views on tying unattended, there's a big difference between tying unattended for two minutes while running to get something and tying to a hedge for over two hours.

Big difference between two hours and ten minutes. I am pretty sure you don't have many friends, I'm right aren't I? Go on admit it!? :)

I'm sure SusieT has many friends. Having an opinion and expressing it in a certain way doesn't= no friends.

You've had one whipping boy this weekend, why not all satisfy yourselves with that eh ; 0

Just teasing AM, I know they aren't directly linked but SusieT has been exceptionally spiteful. You are plain speaking. She is mean spirited

Depends why it was left tied up for two hours on a short rope! Sounds like it may have been having a tying up lesson.

My youngsters are tied up for a considerable amount of time - they have to learn that tied up means just that, that they don't pull back and that they may spend a considerable amount of time tied up at shows and need to accept that.

Please people. I didn't post this as a vehicle for you to carry over your arguments from the other tiring up thread. I made reference to it only because it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this youngster tied to a tree. Play nicely.:) There are no winners in the other argument. Someone made a mistake. We all make mistakes from time to time but mostly we are fortunate and get away with it and learn the lesson and hopefully we learn from it.

Would you tie up and leave it unattended though
It was tied because owner took her other horse out for a hack and it was tearing about.

How unattended - maybe she asked someone to keep an eye on it for her. Just consider this - All the horses that are in the Royal Mews are tied up the whole time they are not working. Any horse that lives in a stall will be tied up the whole time. The are generally fine.

Unattended as in it's dictionary definition .. No one around.. No one on yard and lots of twigs and broken branches to get caught up in.

Have they any valid reason for the horses feet being in the state they are?? like is the horse new to the woman who has her?? as for being tied up the way you describe, i would be a little concerned too.

Friend asked and YO said that owner had a busy life and hadn't had time to sort it.
