Hunting with a difference!

Hopefully, looks like the whole page has been taken down. Shame as the people 'tagged' in the pictures needed to see what people thought of their 'riding'.

Maybe you were just blocked?

Some of the photos arent pretty.

But some of the comments, I'd assume originating from members on here are completely inexcusable and I reported a lot of you to facebook.

Totally agree here, although I can't see the photos now either (didn't comment on them).

Adults swearing at and threatening children, wonderful :(

As did I.

Some of the comments were unbelievably vile and offensive.

Frankly, I was disgusted.

I don't think the comments I saw were likely to change anything about how people rode etc, as they were simply abusive without giving any alternatives, or any educational information. I'm sure that you could take an awkward photo of any member on here, you definitely could of me, and roundly abuse them for it, but that wouldn't necessarily be a fair or constructive thing to do.

The videos are obviously not great but there are other videos which are nowhere near as bad so again perhaps it is a little unfair to make hasty judgements based on 30 second video snippets.

If this club feel the need to block people who disagree with their show of horsemanship then they obviously do have something to be ashamed of.... I'm glad I reported them and a few of the pics to FB while I could. :)

I bet it's more fun for the horses than going round and round in endless circles in the school with some twonk sawing at it's mouth with a crank noseband done up so tight it's cheeks are bulging. And yet that would go unnoticed on here pretty much.

I do have a problem with cranks, actually, and with the obsession with 'outline' that people seem to have these days

As for not having the guts, I used to hunt with these:-

How many pulled mouths can you see here? Not many, I'll bet. And as for the sticability, I can count on one hand the amount of times I fell off out hunting, and my horse was still sound after two seasons!! :p

I have to say I agree with you re the facebook comments - they were beyond ridiculous.
However I looked through all of their albums and most of their videos, and I can say with certainty that 30 seconds wasn't a one off.
Not the worlds worst cruelty no, but not the way I would hunt my horses.

Must admit I did not see any particularly vile or disgusting comments on the photos either, nor did I see any children threatened

'****ing ***** irish' was one ditty I reported. And there were a few like that.

Ahh must have missed that one, I agree that being abusive is unacceptable but then what most (not all) of the riders in those photos were doing to those poor horses was unacceptable too.

Animal cruelty disgusts me a lot more than any words that could ever be said/written.

Cruelty? Oh please.

A horse slipping and getting a face full of mud is not cruelty, nor is being caught awkwardly in the mouth. No, its not ideal of course, but its temporary discomfort rather than cruelty - and no worse than many horses here will face on a daily basis when ridden by unbalanced novices.

The horses look healthy and well fed.

There is plenty of genuine cruelty out there if you want something to get up in arms about

That's my horse and me riding. I'm not perfect. Like the kids in those photos, sometimes I screw up. I don't think my horse has been ruined by these experiences. It doesn't make me a cruel heartless *******. It might make me a shockingly bad xc rider, but that, asaik is not a crime.

Perhaps you'd like to report me too?

But I'm guessing this isn't the norm for you, the pictures on FB were from this weekend, the videos of YT were from 3/4 years ago with the same outcome.

I'm not a perfect rider - I've been left behind at a fence/ landed out the saddle.

I've hunted and will do again. But I wouldn't ask my horse to do any of the above - photos or you tube. Would you take any of your ponies and ask that of them!!

Have to say what a numpty forum this has turned into. Seriously.

Shocking that we have horse owners/enthusiasts and god forbid I say "lovers" on here, that really couldn't give a **** if horses's tack doesn't fit and they are being ridden horrendously. One was on it's knees in the photo.

So what? The people are having fun!

My overall thoughts were, having enjoyed watching many an irish hunting video and going  that's a big bank/ditch etc etc most of them then negotiate it happily and well and land on their feet not their noses/bellies. The proportions of those managing it well in these pics seemed a lot less.

JFTD you are so cruel I am going to report you only joking those pics are very funny, I am surprised most of you have not seen these videos before there are loads of them about.

I was quite surprised by how novice some of the riders look but doing that they wont stay novice for long.
I think people are getting a bit over excited about it all its funny people think nothing of manking horses who are not fit with side reins and all other manner of contraptions there are a thousand videos of this that are rarely commented on.

Also loose schooling very young horses over huge jumps again loads of videos of this with no comment there is certainly a bit of rough riding going on not cruelty.

I cringe much more at videos posted of lots of horses in this country being started wrongly over schooled over fat etc etc.

I also had to laugh at the comment about them wearing wellies I lived in them as a kid and rode in them it isnt a crime and I have noticed alot of hunts in Ireland seem to take a more relaxed approach to attire, they also seem to have plenty of followers riders as well as on foot.

We are up in the borders and all I can say is dont come and watch the common ridings alot of the riding is very similar to this.

This is true.

I'd post some photos of myself going over some banks if I could but I cant on this machine.

Suffice to say though, I got it wrong a lot before I got it right, and I still sock him in the mouth the odd time. I just wish more people would use neckstraps.

YES! I always wear a neck strap when I'm doing x country or sponsored rides, where my horse is likely to put in a few giant leaps! There's nothing wrong or numpty in having a neck strap and using it. I'm in good company because William Fox Pit uses one too!!!

having a neck strap isn't enough :( I have one on in those photos, I am just too incompetent to have hold of it at the right moments!

JFTD Wouldnt it be more beneficial to yourself to find your balance and position before jumping your pony.... horses can turn sour and can only put up with so much even the usually forgiving highland.

I for one am disgusted at the "riding" if you can even remotely call it that of this so called "hunt club" I hunt and this is not something I have ever witnessed. In fact try joining our hunt in wellies and and this p*ss poor attempt at turnout. I would LOVE to know what the cap is.. never mind the craic :-/

No our hunt is not a posh toffy hunt. The hunt masters blood isnt blue, but we ensure conditions are safe for all concerned, tack fits and isnt something wacked on in hope of fit and also that riding attire is fit for purpose. Anybody with any experience of horses knows wellies and a hat from the 80's is not up to the job. We have hairys, M and M's "irish hunters" 10hh shetlands and dressage horses ...... all have an enjoyable day and are not forced to try and get out of a muddy unsafe ditch dragged out by an unmounted hunt master...... so much for tradition and respect.

Call them brave, call them what you want I call it inconsiderate to an animal who under the right conditions and with a gentle and educated rider would love the experience of a hunt.
