Evening All!

I have a saddle dilemma! Hubbie has started riding the Ginger Ninja, who will (having had 16 saddles in 3 years - eek:eek:) will ONLY go in a Wintec. I know, I know, but if he is happy, that's all I care about! He is currently in a 16.5" Wintec CC SJ saddle. This is fine for me but OH is a 6'1'' 13.5 stone bloke. GJ is 17hh and perfectly capable of carrying him (he will only be pootling around anyway) but clearly the saddle is too small for OH. Had the saddler out who tutted about the Wintec but understood my dilemma (and was actually sympathetic :)). GJ has a stupidly short back so can't have a saddle any bigger than a 17".

So, saddler has suggested a normal Wintec as its less 'up' at the front, with a prolite pad under it. However, I was thinking a Wintec VSD might be even better as its straighter cut? Whats your thoughts, knowledgable HHO peeps? Oooh, and is there a cheaper version of a Prolite pad out there? Or are they not as good as the real thing? I've got one for the dumblood but new house is prohibiting funds at the mo. Although if Prolites are the best thing, there's always the trusty credit card...

Thanks in advance!

I wish I could help!

When my OH started riding we had to get an 18" saddle to accomodate the pair of them but if your boy can't fit anything bigger than 16.5" then I wouldn't know what options you have.

What about emailing wintec with your dilemma? Or a knowledgable instructor?

Could hubby go on a diet...? :D

The CC I have him in at the moment is pretty flat - I was hoping it would be ok but its still too small. To be fair, OH's weight is distributed equally and his weight isn't being pushed all the way to the back. The saddler is concerned that when he does a bit more (just walking and trotting at the mo) it will start being a bit less stable and start to cause probs. Having spent so long getting GJ right, I don't want to start over. But OH really keen so don't want to stop him riding, unless its causing probs.

Can you get rib extensions for horses??!!!;) My dream of romantic weekend hacks are being threatened! Or he could just ride the lunatic youngster - nothing like getting thrown in at the deep end!!!!!!
