Hey. as someone in her 50s I take exception to the elderly owner bit
grin.gif
I've got 3 GSDs about to have a 4th, hope I can manage them with my zimmer frame
frown.gif
Obviously the owner didn't do any research on the breed, good luck with finding her a new home.

blackhawk the £150 is a token amount to make sure shes wanted. as yes good home is important but if shes free people will say yes without thinking, so its not about the money.

I personally would ask for the money up front and use it to spay her before she goes...to prevent her becoming a cheap breeding machine, atleast this way you will get genuine owners seeking a pet.

Good luck finding her a permanent new home, hope she does not end up passed from pillar to post.

thankyou cala thats a good idea ,
i am warming to her myself but shes v hard work compared
to my other dogs any helpful tips ?

Is there anyone who can walk/work her a bit for you?
My aunt has always had great danes and still does, but because she has been on the waiting list for a new hip for well over 5 years now cant manage to take them out ATM.
Myself and her daughter walk them for her and it works fine
smile.gif

They are good dogs and respect her voice so no trouble at home as long as one of us is free to walk them.

Also agree with Cala(as always

) spay her first.
Plenty of people out there who will say all the right things to get hold of her then pump out litter after litter or think that just one will cover costs of buying her from you.

When we have husky's in our rescue, we tend to firstly get them settled into a routine, crate train first as lots of people hand them to us for destruction or just because they realised they look fab but are a handfull and need more than they can give.......... we let them play with one another...they love canine company and will play for hours with a tolerable dog, at present we have 2 husky's and a malamute and they play all day
grin.gif

They are breed to pull over great distance, so plenty of exercise for their own mental state is a must.
Shame u did not live closer I may have been able to help...we try to place our's into husky racing teams...but we always neuter before we let them go.

Have you tried if there are any specific rescue organisations for huskies, or even just a husky breed club. They might be able to put you in touch with someone looking to home one.

ive tried putting her in a crate she went mad
sounded like i was killing her, had to give up for fear of neighbours complaining/calling rspca.
i havea jack russel and a rottie she plays with them
but has snapped at both and meant it
luckily they both put her in her place.
im walking her 3 times a day and shes sooo strong.
im bloody exhausted and shes only been here a week

I urge you to get in touch with husky welfare,
http://www.siberianhuskyclub.com/welfarescheme

The other option would be getting back in touch with the breeder. If they are reputable then they will take her back. However, reputable breeders will first ensure the owner knows what they are letting themselves in for before selling.

I have huskies who I work in harness.

Meantime, whatever you do DON'T let her off the lead. They have very strong hunting instincts and will chase sheep, plus they don't do obedience. Haltis work well on the pulling. Mine all live outside in a big run as a pack (with a collie!!) and they need mountains of exercise. Ours run (pulling us) on average 6 miles 4 times a week when it's cold enough.

Unfortunately, they are a victim of their own looks and so many people don't realize they are working dogs, not pets. Way too many people breeding them and selling them unregistered (for silly money) to unsuitable people. People ask me all the time saying they want them, great if you want a new way of life, not if you want a pet! I hope you get her a new home.

Oh...is she KC registered? Makes a big difference if they are....in terms of rehoming. You can't race them in most clubs unless they are.

Try SHWA Siberian Husky Welfare Assosiation

They take in unwanted sibes that are both KC registered and non KC registered as the siberian husky club of GB do not take it sibes that are not registered or as far as i`m lead to believe not bred by one of their members

These guys are fab and will do their utmost to help beleive me, in the last year they have rehomed 203 unwanted sibes, all are in permenant loving homes, and helped many more owners keep the sibes they believed they would have to give up

Get the owner to pay for vaccinations then. Sorry, but, she should be held responsible for this dogs welfare. Vaccinations aren't expensive, and I know there are mixed opinions on the regularity....but the first set should definately be given. This is not a breed that can be rehomed without professional help, unless you want the dog to be passed from pillar to post. For the sake of under £50............

Sorry, but I am quite involved with the breed and it really annoys me that people breed them and sell to people who don't realize what they are buying. It's like a novice rider buying a highly strung ex racehorse.

NO PRIMARY VAXES
shocked.gif
crazy.gif
that is shocking....and she was expecting £150 for an unvaxed dog
crazy.gif

These dogs really do get a sh1tty deal...I know we get plenty through our rescue
frown.gif

Where abouts is the dog?

Can't believe that this lady has paid £300 for an unregistered dog , and then not even bothered to get it vaccinated. Bit shocked that the first husky rescue won't taken in dogs if they are not KC registered. Presumably they aren't interested in strays then unless they have a little back pack with their papers in
crazy.gif
The second rescue are within their rights imo to refuse to take an unvaccinated animal, but would suggest you get her vaccinated and then hopefully they will be able to help you.

my rottie is 10 yrs old bred by myself and never been vaccinated , shoot me down in flames if you want but i lost a dog through vaccs so id never vacc again.
ive decided to keep her myself now , seems less grief than rehoming. like you say rescue centre wont take unless kc reg WHY ? seems you either rescue them or you dont ?
thanks for your help guys . ill do my best by her.

Best of luck, think you will have a challenge on your hands
smile.gif
I am old enough to remember dogs geting distemper, and more latterly when parvo first emerged, and I am sure far more dogs died of these horrible diseases than through vaccination reactions. One of my bitches had quite a severe reaction to her booster last year, this year we are only going to do her against leptospirosis and the other dieseases biannually. At 10 I expect your rottie has built up a natural immunity, but a young pup is imo at risk. Regards rescue centres, my Mum used to help a lot with the local GSD rescue and they took in Shepherds with or without papers, in fact with some it was quite doubtful they were purebred but they weren't turned away.
Keep us updated how you get on with your husky girl.

Good on you for trying to help her...she will settle in Time...they do make lovely pets in the right hands, they have bags of character and cheek to go with it
grin.gif

You are very brave not vaxing your rotti
crazy.gif
they have a very poor immunity, they are the most common breed we treat and loose through our work, they get parvo in a bad way
frown.gif

I would never run the risk of not giving primary vaxes...like MM said it's a dreadfull and painfull virus for any dog to have to endure
frown.gif
and very very costly to treat.

Im sure if you need any advice re the husky.....u will get some god advice on here.....and im sure everyone would like to see some piccies of her and your other dogs
smile.gif

We take all dog papers or not...I think some breed rescues can get a better donation/fee when dogs are reged
crazy.gif
some don't even neuter before rehoming

As far as I know with the breed club they have very limited resources in which to foster these dogs and with so many of the breed about these days they have to somehow make a desision on how best to cope with the situation and unfortunately for now that is only taking in KC registered dogs, they do however work with SHWA who as much as they can deal with the rest which unfortunately these days seems to be the majority

Would love to see some piccies of her and if you ever need any help we`re only a PM away

RE The KC registration. The problem is that most Husky owners have more than one, and work them or show them, or both. The majority of clubs won't allow non registered huskies to run in races thus people won't take them on. It's the same with showing. As I have said they don't make good pets unless you have a LOT of time to exercise them, they are working dogs and it is very frustrating if you have a non registered one that you can't run at most rallies. We have 5 of them (soon to be 7) and the number is growing. I know quite a few people with over 20 of them. I don't know anyone with less than 2, and they all work them.

labs and terriers etc are working dogs too
but many people have them as pets.
i totally agree im in the dark but im trying my best
i turned down 2 homes as felt they knew less than me !!

The main problem is that you can't let them off the lead so you can't tire then out by throwing a ball, like you can with most other breeds, and walking just doesn't cut it. See my reply on your pic post!!

Is there no chance you could consider contacting one of the husky rehoming places and ask their advice?

As a husky owner, its saddening how frequently these dogs get passed around. Theyre beautiful and they appeal to people but a search on these forums will show that myself and the other husky owners / breeders on here are constantly trying to encourage people to think very very carefully about this breed
frown.gif

So many people looking for puppies and so many showing up for resale at around this age
frown.gif

We have had 2..... 9 month old husky's handed into us last week alone....it's b1oody pitifull.
I think crazypony is going to try and keep her....so fingers crossed she won't be another statistic
