Husky/Wolf/Inuit Hybrids....

LOL! Cant argue with that! If Im on a beating line near you, Ill put white collars on my Borders!

For the record... Having handled more european wolves than I imagine most people would have done so, although similar, I'd never ever mistake SM's dogs for wolves or wolfdogs. They're just too doggy.

I wouldn't object to keeping a wolfdog, personally, it's just sad that the american trend means most of them are doomed from the off, poor things

People do seem to get a bit excitable about breeds of dogs - me, I don't really care, so long as the dogs are cared for appropriately and there is no negligence or cruelty involved. I'm not sucked into these pedigree versus crossbreed discussions as I own 2 pedigree dogs and 2 crossbreed dogs - all of them are very dear to me and pieces of paper mean absolutely nothing to me.

Oh, very random but my bf was on about the breed that your Clover is yesterday, I was surprised he's even heard of them!!

Cool that someone from Britain knows anything about them.

I admit I'd never heard of them before I came here. Wonderful dogs though; I do love my Clover, she's such an amazing dog who captivates me daily

By the way Pingpong - I love those photos of your little dog!

I don't care for little dogs, however if I was ever to have one, it would most definitely be a Border Terrier, they are such cool "big" dogs in little dogs skins.

I think wolfdogs are a dying trend over here now, to be honest B. When I lived over here 20-odd years ago they were certainly all the rage and I have to say I almost bought a 77% hybrid

. My excuse, I was young and impressionable

. I'd never dream of it nowadays, particularly as we were blighted on our farm for a couple of years by one who was clearly a thrown out hybrid and who had established his own pack on our farm - you may well remember the stories I told about him back then. Poor guy pushed his luck too far and ended up being killed.

I have to say, it is much more rare to see hybrids advertised over here these days; I guess people have moved on to Cockapoos and Shihpoos and Puggles etc - these seem to be the latest designer dogs. Good news for wolves and hybrids, not too sure the designer thing works for me, however as I say I do own 2 crossbreed dogs, so not sure I have any right to decry these types of crossbreed dogs, simply based on prejudice of what I find ridiculous looking critters. People appear to like them and are they really that much different from my 2 Springers X Collies? No I don't think so. The hybrid issue, yes I have a problem with that nowadays; the offspring don't know what they are, other dogs don't know what they are, and the wolves don't know what they are ... I'm definitely not into inter-species breeding.

Thanks Tia, very much appreciated. Pets first and foremost, anything else is a bonus. None of mine get sold on if they dont make the grade, they just take up another space on the sofa!

We have two huskies and both have excellent recall. Even the 20 week old puppy. They actually have better recall than most other dogs I know. The oldest husky dog we have who is 3 years old will walk to heel off the lead through the park and will only go on ahead if he is told he can.

I tried to resist, honestly I did as it's such an old thread, but no, here I am. Please potato, search for such titles as 'my husky/mal/'wolf (lol) dog' is perfect off lead, followed by the threads 'my husky etc used to be so well trained off lead, and now he's dead - killed by a car/run off/eaten the neighbours rabbit.
I'm sorry, call me cynical, but I've seen it happen time and time again, and cannot sit on my hands and keep quiet.
Link to one off lead thread - my post re offlead is half way down page one

I did my homework and know what these dogs can be like, however these two dogs are both excellently well behaved and trained well by people who understand them from an early age. I won't tar them with the same brush as dogs that may have not had the work put into them. The oldest dog is not your typical husky in that he is a nervous dog and therefore even off the lead will not run more than 50ft in front of you and will always keep you in site. If he loses sight of you he panics. He will hide away from other dogs and takes no notice of them (at all to avoid confrontation). The puppy I feel will need more work than the older dog as he is bolder in his personality. I believe that it's all to do with training in the early years.

I also have concerns re the recall of huskies and have tried to explain to the owner of the dogs who does fob me off. However I have seen these dogs and do see how well behaved they are. The oldest dog as I said is so nervous of everything he won't actually leave you
