I gave up work to be a full time pony carer! My job had been getting me down for years and other half kindly agreed to pay all bills including horses! I had two ponies in two acres eleven miles from home. Just as we bought a house nearer to my rented field one of my ponies died suddenly leaving me to find a friend urgently for Quin. I loaned a pony from a friend but she was lame and had to go back in April when Quin went lame also and had to be retired.
I gave up my field and my three-four hours a day looking after them to house him at grass livery near my new home. I now have 23 and a half hours a day to fill as he wants for nothing in his new accommodation. Im so so bored! Not quite bored enough to go back to work but I walk the dog cook tea clean and sleep. Highlight is a glass of wine at 5! Counting the hours today. I’m such a brat I know moaning but it’s miserable.

I can totally understand that you’re bored, but I would give anything to be in your situation as I know many others would.
Maybe consider volunteer work, learning a new skill or something similar.
Honestly, after a year in a horrifically abusive situation, I am now out, have just come out of hospital, and have lost everything. My horses are all I have left and they have to go as I can’t afford to keep them. I feel like a complete failure and have to start my life all over again. Please be grateful to be in such a fortunate position and use the time you have to do something wonderful.

That's terrible @Starzaan - are you well enough to work again now? I saw a show yard looking for someone with space for horse - I'll try to find it

You’ve made a number of posts now about wanting another one. If you had 2 before, is there a reason 2 is not possible now?
It sounds like finding something productive to do with your time like volunteering or studying might help you feel more satisfied/settled and keep you occupied if another horse is not an option right now

I was furloughed last year and don’t get me wrong it was great having all that time at home but I did struggle without a proper routine.
I agree with the volunteering suggestion. And getting a new horse. ?

@Starzaan I’m so sorry for what your going through. Getting out of an abusive relationship is far from failing so be proud of yourself! Hope your recovery goes well. Sending best wishes.

I’m so sorry you’re in that situation. I know I am lucky. I do appreciate that. Really hope things work out for you. If I could help you I would do happily. I’ve tried to volunteer but due to covid it’s very difficult this year.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately I’ve got a severe laceration to my liver, so it’s going to be a while before I can do horsey work again. I think I’m going to move away from horses and go back into sales if I can find something. ?

@Starzaan I don’t know if it’s of any help but I have 9 acres currently empty as my boys are away on livery whilst our new stables are done. Please PM me if I can be of any help at all x

I’ve missed my opportunity I think. My other half has got thoroughly sick of financing my expense hobby! I don’t blame him really.

I know exactly how you feel. All my normal club activity in the daytime has now been halted for approaching 2 years. I have volunteered for Covid lockdown duties, vaccine duties, and to help kids at several schools catch up by listening to them reading and nobody has taken me up on it. If I even could ride two horses every day (not possible due to weather and available energy) then that would make horses boring too.

Of course there are other people having a worse time, but that doesn't mean you can't have a quick moan about a situation that's making you unhappy.

Thank you. I do feel like a spoilt brat and am trying yet another share next week so not wallowing completely. But still… I don’t want to study. I can’t leave the dog all day or I think I would house sit or do some form of animal related work it’s depressing.

I'd second those who suggest that you volunteer somewhere. Or do some part time work (freelance groom?). Learn an additional language perhaps, Open University degree? Many things to do if you think about it. Good luck!

When I was in this situation I was able to fill my day. I usually got up at 5:00, had breakfast, and was in the gym by 6:00. Finished by 7:30. Showered then walked the dog for at least an hour. The did some hoovering and other floor cleaning. I washed the cars, cleaned the inside of the cars, did gardening, deep cleaned/organized room by room, did the grocery shopping, cooked, ran all other misc errands, spent about 2/3 hours a day at the yard. Got a Master's degree, volunteered (still possible but rarer with covid), took online courses that were of interest. Drove to different places to walk the dog. I manged to fill my days quite well. It's a very fortunate position to be in. Maybe a share or other riding opportunities would help.

Think I’m going to have to find something. I was a vets receptionist for 27 years so limited skills! Vets all so corporate now can’t deal with it!

You have excellent skills!! I worked in a local shop and then a friends cafe the first year I gave up work - and loved it!

You have organisational and people skills!!!

In the short term you could volunteer for the NHS on booster role out - might be interesting on your CV when the world calms down and you can volunteer elsewhere

I know lots of people get a lot out of helping the RDA. Some of the mid sized charities are wonderful to deal with (big ones a bit corporate!)

Kids have suffered so much over the last 2 years (the Ofsted report this week was tragic reading) so I am sure there will be roles to help young kids with basic reading, writing etc. in the fullness of time.

I am awful at learning! I hated school and never do well at exams but of a phobia! Also at 57 I really struggle to remember things like I used to. Speak a little French but won’t be going any time soon.

I’d thought about the vaccination program I can’t do the kids thing personal reasons being my unborn grandchild has a serious birth defect. I’d find it a bit too close to home.

Oh that’s very kind of you but you never saw my desk! I loved my job until the corporates came along!

Untidy desk ..... bored .... hated school...... I'm sensing a theme here ....... do you fidget a lot, forget to pay your credit card bill, have trouble concentrating on one thing at a time ? ?

Always paid all my bills but my dad used to call me perpetual motion! Concentration?? What’s that ?

My desk was always hideously messy. But I’m very organised, pay bills on time and don’t fidget. So it doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand.
