Hi Benson, can you advise me what your requirements are - you can pm/email me if you wish... PS - I'm not a dealer - am currently looking for horses for 2 other horsey friends. From a Happy Hacker... or should it be Happy 'Hunter'!
A big ID x was on livery at our yard a few years ago, and he would have been perfect. He was sold when the husband and wife split up, as he was the husbands horse. He was huge, and very calm and placid. He was the ideal all rounder for a novice rider. Sorry my post is not much help, but they are around!
Possibly contacting the local hunts might be a good idea? A lot of men require weight carriers and hunters need to be sensible. Our shire x used to be our local hunt secretarys horse, and he would have been suitable for your needs. He's not for sale. He's 33 years old now!
I give another very positive thumbs-up to Emma Hinkley of Clip Clop Traders. I bought a young horse from her a few months ago. I've had loads of horses in my time all lovely in thier way, but the one from Emma is a real gem and as she described him. He's a true pleasure to have on our yard.
I totally feel your pain on this one. When we were looking first time round - well I was an idiot and went to a dealer who tried to sell me some old crock. I very nearly bought it because I pitied it. Then went to see a 'totally safe first pony' and watched as it bolted down the road with it's owner's child.
A couple of years later I was looking again, this time for my daughter and instead of looking at ads I just said "RIGHT I want something small, hairy and cuddleable, and it's got to enjoy being dragged round a yard by a toddler, and got to be SO safe she can swing off it's tail" 24 hours later my farrier had found the one, who incidently, wasn't even for sale. By coincidence I'd seen this pony a couple of years previously and asked if he was for sale! Anyway, owner sold him to us, and he's just a forever pony. Everyone wants him for their kids
I'm currently looking half heartedly for our third pony, and I put a deposit down on something which appeared to be perfect. At the last moment I had a vetting done and it failed - the owner had lied to me I've given up looking because I'm a believer that the right pony will come to you.
He looks like a star! Probably the wrong end of the countyr though completely but, if the ad is as honest as it says then he looks worth his weight in gold.
Hi, I used to be over 17 stone and in all honesty i felt unfair riding my horse as its much harder to ride lightly when you are so heavy. Ive since lost 6 stone and i cannot stress how much easier it is to ride and how much easier to mount. Being heavy is not ideal for any sport, especially horses, if you want i can tell you how i did it. If you dont want to lose weight im sure something in the heavier breeds will turn up for you, good luck
Well done you for loosing weight! I basically live on salads, I have to have some form of pasta, bread, potato with every meal as I am an insulin dependant diabetic. I am also at the moment suffering with a torn ligament in one knee and a broken back, so on crutches. My job, I sit behind a reception desk for 8 hours a day. so please, if you can tell me how I can loose 6 stone, let me know!!!!! Its just frustrating when I am classed as too heavy, but some of the men I see ride, are much much bigger than me, and no one bats an eyelid!
I total feel for you, I am in same boat. Have lost a lot of weight but am still just under 20st and now I have stopped loosing for no reason!!! I work all day 3 days a week in a shop, and the rest of my time I spend working on the yard where sons horse is (TB no chance of getting on her) !!! why I cant loose again I dont know, so for the moment I have set sights on getting a ride and drive heavy horse, in the hope that when I find one it will spur me on to weight loss again. At least in the meantime I can drive it and son can follow on his!!!! I do like the look of the clydesdale bay though.
GOOD LUCK IN THE HUNT

yes thank you, and thanks for the warning! Just wish all dealers could be honest! I apologise to not getting back to you, I have so many pm's coming through as I am also looking into something else, and i know I am missing getting back to some. x
No worries about not getting back to me, we are in West Sussex & will keep my ear to the ground & let you know of anything I see advertised in the area. Good luck & keep your chin up. We drove all over the countryside looking for our last horse & ended up getting him word of mouth before he was even advertised in the next village to us.
Just wondering how you were getting on? Did you go and see one today? It must be a nightmare trying to deal with your diabetes and injuries. I'm sure the right horse will come along soon, it's so hard to be patient when horse shopping! x
Hi, yes we were supposed to be seeing one today, but got a message late last night to tell me he had been sold! Went to a local show, and was thinking about taking the trailer with us, so if there were any there that we liked, I would just push the rider off, put it on the trailer and drive off quick!!!!!
