I had an accident with the wheelbarrow(ha ha), full of muck when pooh picking, it went down in a rutt and got a terrible pain in my pelvis. Next day I jumped off my Cobby forgeting that I was wearing thin soled boots and got another nasty pain in hip. Then the next day duplicated the incident with the wheelbarrow again, doing usual paddock chore, and finally got chucked of my horse when a fly got under his fly mask when out riding, and wrenched the leg again.

Had X ray, doc thinks the hip joint is damaged in some way, but no break evident ATM. Possibly sacro-iliac joint involved. Will be seeing Orthopaedic Consultant next for an ultra -sound scan . - I am so fed up and bored !!
Have to watch telly all day and read books (yawn)

I have just moved my horse to a new field and everyone is going to things and out riding, having fun and its the first time in a long while that I have had people to ride out with and to go to events with and farmer has built a super new sandschool too.
Everyone is being really kind and helpful, looking after my horse and even trying to find someone to ride him while I am out of action.
I am just hoping that its not a long term thing.
last time I was in a wheelchair for 4 months, - so please lots of HHO vibes for me!!

You need to be more careful !

Unfortunately you have to do as your told as not following medical advice is not a good idea.

In addition to watching rubbish tv you can catch up on your sleep, gossip all day long on the phone and read trashy magazines.

Hope you are better soon

get a book on how to make horsey things, spend the time making fabulous summer sheets, saddlecloths, learn how to make velvet covered browbands and sell custom colours to your yard mates
do an equine learning distance course, thy do all kinds of things from horse phsycology to equine vet medicine and stable management
get a load of thin nylon cord from b+q or somewhere and make yourself dozens of haynets, its easy and they last forever

Thats really helpful, I really fancy the velvet browbands - I always want one for my horse and can never find the colours gold and green . Thanks

I am on my 5th week of box rest at the moment with a broken fibula (lower leg) and believe me I'm going absolutely stir crazy. It's not just not being able to get around without crutches, but when you're using the crutches, you can't carry anything, so even making a cup of coffee is a nightmare. I'm not the kind of person who can sit still and do nothing. I can't stand daytime TV, I love reading but am even fed up of that (currently got about 6 books on the go at once, depending on what mood I'm in). And for the first time in years I've caught up with the previously permanent sleep deficit so now can't get to sleep any more because I've had too much of it.

I can now fully appreciate why horses go psycho during and after box rest.

Sorry about the moaning, folks.

Anyway Stormina teacup - fingers crossed for you - I really do hope that they can find out exactly what the damage is - and then can treat it accordingly. Wishing you a speedy recovery and I hope that you don't end up going as stir-crazy as me!

Faro - oh poor you, still I guess you are getting near the end of the box rest or perhaps at least halfway through. Its about 12 weeks for a fracture I think. Its the worst situation ever for active types like we horse owners. We have doggy to and taking him out for a cross country run accompanying my car down the dissued industrial estate wastelands is the only way I ve been able to exercise him. I can at least drive. Also had a trip round Tescos today in the powered wheelchair - its not bad.
So in many ways I am not as confined as you.
This is the ideal time to do a course of some sort but trouble is by the time you ve organised it you will be back doing everything again , and have no time!
I am going to pluck my eyebrows and dye my moustache hairs, - you only notice these things when you have too much time on your hands.

PS try Wilbur Smith books - unputdownable - and you may enjoy your box rest a bit more. - For me I've read them all!
