Ive been struggling with Moo, he is hot and sweaty even after a walk round the village so you can imaging him after a 5 mile drive with a lot of trot work, dripping and lacking energy but fit as a fiddle. Poor thing has never really got a summer coat through and his fur gets caught in his noseband and girth. So i decided enough was enough. Heres the before photo ...

No fine summer coat for us :( He is a welsh section A x coloured cob so typical cob coat.

I am terrible at clipping and last year he looked scalped LOL, so i decided to ask a friend to give me a hand, she clips regularly as part of her job and she has opened my eyes to a new way of clipping, soooo much easier and even better...... NO LINES

So we took it all off and he instantly he looked happier. I filled a black bin bag with what came off, we couldnt beleive it bless him - he had a nice cool bath afterwards and is now covered up with his fly rug so he doesnt burn his pink bits.

He is a strange colour underneath isn't he, he has a big diamond shape on his other side LOL.

very smart :D

sorry to hijack thread.....my kitty is not as fluffy but looks really fluffy when she gets sweaty....some days she'll sweat buckets other days its hard to just get her to break a single drop of sweat even in yesterdays heatwave

shes sports pony x nf x tb do you think i should clip in summer only usually do it in winter?

He looks lovely, I am sure u have already thought of it but he has no protection from the sun clipped so a sun protection rug may help (think u can get fly rugs that also deflect uv).

Ignore me duh ! Just seen bit about rug!.... My chap sweated more than I have ever seen yesterday on our hack so I will be confined to early or late till this heatwave passes.

Ah thanks guys, i am chuffed with him,
Yep he is all covered up and suncreamed his heels and nose this morning :)

His colour doesnt really show when he is hairy, no, except a dark grey patch on each stifle

Up to you hun, my boy just seemed miserable and hot and had sweaty stifle areas when i brought him in yesterday, just from being in the field. I know a lot of cob owners clip all year, and top level eventers but some native breed shows say not to be clipped ?

I think its the horses well being that comes first

Have you got any more pics of him?

Just my guy seems very similar build to him, dam is confirmed Section A but I've hazarded a guess that my lad's sire is a coloured cob too.

Sorry to hijack, he is just lovely.
