I brought a horse last week by paypal

Ive just come back from spending 4 years in America, you can buy DMSO from the local tack shop, we would put it on half the time with out gloves, no adverse affects... but gloves may b a good idea if using regularly for long periods

I sold a little driving pony a few months ago. The people wanting him were from miles away and Paypaled me the money to secure him before another scheduled viewing.
They didnt know but had I not liked them or they him, I would have actually given them the money back!
Money has actually stayed there too-which cash would have disappeared by now :D

Sorry, away at a meeting last few hours

No, horse through magazine not ebay. Not sure if I dare post the link as may get shot down in flames. Re breeding from lame mare, don't worry, its not a confirmation fault she's just been hammered too young and I've now bred 2 x foals and all will be broken, competed and either sold if not top class (responsibly for proper money) or I will be proud owner if they are high level anything so much as though I take the point, this is not irresponsible breeding. This year's is by Quirifino out of my Clover Hill mare - enough said. Shall I post the link then????

The DMSO hasn't harmed me or horse yet (I think it may be plain jelly!!)

Am I allowed to post it? Tinker88 was going on about rules and I don't know what they are. Don't want to be barred from forum. Im in my 40's!

Aah you'll be fine. I bought a welsh cob from Wales based on a 10 minute video. But then again, he was a newly backed 3yo so I figured how messed up could he be at that age! I'm quite happy to have "projects" though (and that is exactly what I got!). Don't regret it at all. Let us know what turns up!

Sorry my bad!

However - buying a lame horse to breed from??? Thats got to be a joke......

Have to say that I agree with this it does seem a little odd but I suppose a lot of the thing is why the horse is lame and what its breeding/ competition record was like prior to the mare going lame, whether the lameness is going to be a hereditary problem or if the mare can cope with carrying a foal.

As for using paypal for anything they currently have a large sum of my money frozen in an account for goods that have been sent to customers and it is going to take six months for it to be released so I would def not use paypal.

DMSO is what we use to freeze chemical compounds at work and to unlock DNA for PCR. I don't think it is inherently dangerous in of itself but it can carry all kinds of other things through your skin with it so is dangerous by association. I would not be using it without gloves myself. Unless you can guarantee that you aren't going to touch anything else which could be dangerous (which you probably can't as most things are dangerous if directly absorbed) I might be tempted to steer well clear.

I'd have bought the horse though :) I'd love to see a piccy. Failed flexion tests would definitely not put me off. I would fail one and I'm fine! Hehe

In fact you probably know more about this mare than I did when I went to Ascot and bought my 2 TB's.

I really can pick them. I picked 2 well put together, unraced NH types. First one was a lovely boy but the least talented jumper I have ever sat on. Second one was brilliant apart from strange water (was fine if he had schooled though, but new water - no chance - not great for an eventer! - sold him to do P2P instead!

Yes, I know and my hubby went ballistic too (LOL)

Dont doubt yourself GD, for that price you have a lot of mare for your money!! I bought a TB 8 or so weeks ago, knew nothing about her, trusted my own inituitive and bought her within 5 minutes. Like you I didnt agonnise just did it, I havent been dissapointed. I dont like flexion tests anyway. How many horses would pass them? Good luck with her.

i'll just add - i didn't bother with a flexion test and i'm pretty sure my mare would have - and prob still would - fail - bvut she can hunt all day sound as a pound and not do badly at local shows ;)

Well if if you dont get your horse, you can get your money back via paypal anyway.Yes paypal is related to ebay but NOT EVERY purchase is related to ebay. pogo use paypal,as do many other sites.
Hope everything works out ok for you!!

I've never had mine vetted and all have been bought unseen...not had a bad one yet, quite the opposite in fact. :) But agreed is risky, but sometimes the bigger risk you take can be worth it!

Good luck.

i didnt have mine vetted either... i had her vet checked today and told the vet "dont shout at me but..." he was like lol...im not.. i thought they would think im mad. but tbh non vetting is becoming the norm.....

i would buy unseen... but only youngsters - im not brave/trusting enough to buy a ridden horse tbh - i like to ride before i buy! but not knocking it - each to their own :)
