Does anyone on here know of anywhere that i can keep my horse short term, urgently. I'm in the process of trying to sell him and am having nightmares. He went to someone a year ago she wanted to buy him but asked for 6months to a year to get the money together, i thought she seemed just what my boy was looking for, but she turned out to be a nightmare. She signed an agreement that stated until she had fully paid for him she had certain conditions to adhere to, she has ignored nearly all of them. She moved him 4 times without my permission, she constantly turns him out without boots on, she had all her phones disconnected and didn't bother giving me the new numbers, he was due the dentist a month after she took him, which she was told, he still hasn't seen the dentist 11 months on, I went to see him and she threw a wobbly cos i didn't give her notice. She said she would try to give me half the money she owed for him by january 2009 and she still hasn't paid a penny, she then started to argue over the price she agreed on 'cos of the drop in the market' eventhough she signed an agreement stating the price when she took him and as i pointed out she isn't buying him now she bought him last year i just gave her a year to pay me. Anyway the list just goes on and on so now i'm having to resell him as there is no way i'm prepared to let her have him for any amount of money, so as arranged with her originally he is being sold from where she has him so i arranged an appointment on sunday with her only to get a text at 6.55am sunday morn saying that she now couldn't let us go there then and would have to reschedule. to cut a long story short i turned up with the prospective buyers only to have her and her mother slagging off my horse with lie after lie and slagging off me. The school was indoors and the dust when you were riding was so bad that you couldn't actually see the horse when he was at the far end of the school, it was so deep and full of stones. My throat is still sore today i hate to think what it is doing to his lungs. My horse was seriously obese, incredibly unfit, he had a horribly infected eye and his tail actually stuck to your hand where it was so sticky, lumps of his mane had been chewed and he seems headshy (girl on yard was seen hitting a horse round the head while we were there).
Anyway what would you do? He is over an hour away from me, we are seriously short of money but how the hell do i sell him from there, the girl that came said she really wanted him but would have to have him for 6 months loan first as she wanted to check that what they told her wasn't true!! Really need to sell and not too keen on a loan again after this experience. But i've got a really nice guy coming a long way to see him next week but obviously i want him to be at his best and not this horribly uncomfortable situation.
What would you do? I'm in Surrey if that helps.
I'm thinking grass livery with use of facilities somewhere, but other major problem is, as she was definitely having him last year i sold all my tack. Luckily i can still borrow it to show him to prospective buyers but not on a daily basis so all i could do if i bring him back is to lunge or free school him to try to get him in a better condition. It is just a bloody nightmare and i just don't know what to do. Someone please help me.
 
If you have received no money for this horse then go and get him. HE is still yours.

Put him on cheap livery somewhere & sell him from there. If the price is right he will sell.
 
If he still legally belongs to you, take him back, just find a field or yard, anywhere you can, you may not even have to tell her you're taking him back (not sure though), to be brutally honest I wouldn't have let her have the horse until she had paid for him full up. Good luck.
 
Oh poor you! As far as I can tell it's a two stage process:

(1) Get him the hell away from her.
(2) Worry about practicalities.

Sorry I can't be of more use but I really believe you need to move your horse, I often read about loan horses effectively being 'stolen' by their loaners and your unreliable madam sounds like a likely candidate!
 
I want to bring him back but as i said finances a problem, i have a 15month old son so diy is out and round here you are looking at about 450 per month for part livery plus i've got to pay to get him driven back over my way. As for taking him back i have absolutely no problem with just turning up and taking him he is my horse and she is a spoilt petulant teenager who i would happily murder and smile while doing it.
I love my horse more than anything in the world but i just can't seem to find anywhere round here that has grass livery with use if school. How the hell do i afford part livery???
 
My friend has a place near Felbridge, I don't know if that would be any good? PM me if you would like to be put in touch for a chat. You've got to just take him away, anywhere, before they do him too much damage.

I didn't. Bought three neds, whilst two had schools, the try outs could have been just as easily done on grass.

We did discuss the fact that we have a 60 foot garden that needs mowing!!! If only. And yes everything i'm saying is for real and i feel sick to my stomach about it all. Not only all that but i hadn't ridden for nearly 2 years and obviously i rode him for the people that came to see him and it made me weep because it was so lovely and i've missed having him so much so now i get to have my heart broken all over again. Aren't i lucky.
 
If only. At the moment our son eats very well but we are so broke my husband and myself are lucky to eat every day! I gave up work when i had my son but before that i worked with horses so either kept him where i worked or could afford to have him on livery but yards are so expensive round here.
Trust me if there is any way i could keep him i would riding him on sunday was absolutely beautiful i've missed it so much. He just is a dream horse and what is so heart breaking is even if our circumstances ever changed i'd never find a horse like him again. He is one in a billion.
 
Shame you arnt nearer me, id have taken him and worked him till you sorted yourself out or sold him.
TBH if you are in such a dire finincial situation that you struggle to afford food then id take you horse to the best dealing yard you know of and take whatever they will offer you for him. If your horse had an accident how on earth would you pay the vet bills? Its in his interests (no matter how much you love him) for him to be in a home where he will be looked after well.

Why did you not go to see the horse before taking buyers?
She is evidently trying you on, go and get the horse and put him on livery you can afford, then find him a good home, do not put him out on 6 month loan, unless you want to be in this situation lots.
I woul dalso be up there tomorrow to get the horse if he has ailments.
 
could you pm me the details of your horse.I know of several people searching for a decent horse at the moment so I can pass your info on.Maybe he will be suited to one of them.
 
As for needing a school to sell your horse, when we bought our pony we tried her on grass and also tried a horse on grass when we were looking, you can section off an area of field quite simply with some electric tape and posts (don't electrify it for riding in though!), or maybe borrow some dressage markers from someone to mark out an area. The most important thing is to get the horse back, you are going nowhere with this girl, maybe she thinks you will get fed up and leave the horse with her.
 
If you pm me the details of your horse that would be fab - is he the one in the siggie? I've got a friend looking to buy a horse and a friend looking to loan a horse full time, covering all the costs - we're in Hertfordshire in an absolutely gorgeous yard.
Alternatively i'll look after him for you for nothing but I wouldn't be able to pay the £150 a month to keep him at our yard

I know this may sound a bit OTT, but surely you can sue for breach of contract? (If it was a legal signed document and all that)
 
Echo all of the above , get him out of there you don't know what they are doung to him.

but....why do they have to be there when oyu are selling your horse...if there are access issues then you need a key or the padlock codes.

for exeample if you were renting a house out....the landlord still keeps the keys and the tenant cannot change the locks and deny the landlord access.

I would have thought that it works along the same lines.

The horse is your property not only that she hasn't paid for him, your rights would be to have access to him at all times as the owner.

and as she has broken the contract beween you then she has no leg to stand on..

you have every right to sell your horse without notifying her..and she shouldn't even be there at the time it is nothing to do with her.

if you don't have access demand it... or SUE! I knwo you are broke but it's not much money to lodge in the small claims court and you may well be awarded the money you need to find him suitable accomodation. think you can apply for legal help if you can't afford it. ...talk to your citizens advice bureau they will advise you.


I am sure that if she has broken your contract and is now wilfully preventing the sale of the horse then she is in really hot water as far as the law is concerned.
 
My suggestion would be that you get him out of there ASAP!!!!
Put him on grass livery (you need to spend a day going to all the farms / yard near you and aksing for short term livery).
Drop your asking price, if you have him on livery the longer you have him the more its costs the quicker he is gone the cheaper it is for you!!!!
If the price is right someone will snap him up very quickly.
You will never sell him from where he is now, people will not take a risk when spending that sort of money!!

I'm sorry to hear that you are in such a horrible situation. I know exactly where you are coming from where finances are concerned, if it was'nt for having a very generous friend with land I most certinly would'nt still have my boy. I had to move him off a livery yard last year as i could no longer afford grass livery and it was becoming a choice of pay his rent, my rent or put shoes on him! I could not neglect him or let him go so i took him home to his original owners house. I am still struggling to keep him, but I would rather do without than not have him to enjoy, I don't know what I would do if I had a child aswell, Moo would have to find a new mum.

I can sympathise with you situation completely, do you know of any farmers nearby that may rent you a field? I realise this might not be ideal, but it would give you piece of mind that you have your ned back in your care and know he is safe.

God that is awful! You could put him with me for a couple of months but I'm in East Sussex, a good couple of hours away from you, which won't help you when trying to sell him.

I'm sure someone must be able to put him up for a while until you can get things sorted?

This is going to sound horrible- butis you really truely cant afford to keep him either put him in sales livery or take him to auction- that way you dont need to arrange livery. Otherwise the only way to make money is to spend it initially.
 
just looked at tht livery someone posted about : 235 pcm for grass livery!!!! when my horses are on grass its only 40 a month per horse :O

find a field to put him in just not, having a school isnt ur main concern its to get him away from the brat of a teenager. if someone sees him and genuinely wants him they wont mind trying him on grass. unless he's only gd in the school??
