I was really excited tonight - the snow is defrosting quite well - and so i got home and told OH - that i could not cope with another week of snow and ice...... urm he said - we should get a little respite for a couple of days..... but them we are supposed to be getting about a foot of snow and the long range weather forcast says this cold spell is in until March....

NO!!!!!!!!!! I cannot keep up the working pace i am at the min - and i dont think i can afford 21 bales of hay again next week and the week after and after that - i have 3 big horses and they are eating me out of house, home and barn!!

Yes I heard that too - my heart sank - I have re-arranged the farrier twice, please not a third time

I think its really getting everyone down now. My daughter and I haven't been able to ride for nearly 4 weeks now outdoors.
Me and YO ended up paying £60.00 to hire an indoor school for an hour and half so our kids could ride last Friday, but we sure can't afford that all the time.

My YO used to put one of those large round bales of haylage out a week, he's now having to put 5-6 out per week, as the horses haven't seen grass in nearly a month, we've all been asked to pay an extra £5 per week per horse to contribute to costs which is fair enough.

The thought of this continuing till March makes me wanna scream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MARCH...?? Thats got to be a wind up!! NOOOO Way!!?
Down here we are due more snow tomorrow pm/evening and Wed am but it IS getting warmer.
(ps, isn't it a known fact that forcasters can predict the near future with reasonable accurancy, but there is not a guarranteed way to get more than 10 days of weather in advance?)
Maybe iam finally barking!!

Well turst me i hope they are wrong - 3 horses in this weather with no running water apart from YO's out house... a long treck to stables, and hay - i have never brought so much hay - i now finally know what the saying "EATS LIKE A HORSE" really means.... and a bale a day per horse is a little bit much and ive been lucky i have had some HUGE bales this week - looking at the barn there are only tiddler bales left - one of em wont do one of my for breakfast - let alone the day.....

How does this ad sound "free to good home, 3 very messy, very hungry horses - need to be adored and pampered everyday - will only stay out for an hour in snowy weather before they demand to be brought in, will dunk hay in water buckets or knock water buckets over on frequent occasions - especially at 8pm at night when you are tired and just want to go home. All of them will poo as soon as you have finished doing their bed for the 2nd time of the day and the youngster will do at least 3 and have a wee"

gonna put my neck on the line here, i have a degree in weather systems and they cannot forecast that far ahead! so i would just take each week as it is, and member each month the sun gets closer to us, making it warmer!

Mazziek - i so hope you are right ! Was just getting the fitness video so i could shape up a bit before i start selling my decrepid body on the street corner..... give you a good time gov for the price of a bale of hay.....

Actually I think the sun is at its closest to earth at the moment . It is just too low on the horizon to effectively warm us up. We arent even in feb yet and that is generally the coldest snowiest month.
