I just bought my first cob! Introduction + feed advice + photos!

I guess it's time for a Jiggers update...

Jigs rules his own world, that's for sure.

We ran out of grass, so he was allowed the lawn. He was very excited to be on good grass; I'm surprised I trust him with my car! I have many Rigsby on the lawn videos, this is just the latest.

BF and I had a long holiday, so both boys went to my friend's for their holiday: he thought that was quite good fun too.

On holiday, we had many fabulous adventures, but I knew the boys were well cared for.

If you have followed the thread from the start, you will know that 2 years ago I thought I'd never be happy again, so holiday photos are very important!

Back home, the boys were happy but unfit so we did a bit of hacking...

Then Rigs disgraced himself! The lawn was getting chewed up, so it was time for him to be back on a track. He was furious!!! You can see the difference in tempament between the 2 boys LOL.

He is used to it now!

It is very much same old same old. But, I am now happy to just exist with the horses, whereas I used to always need some sort of ambition.

In fact, the trainer yesterday mentioned again (at an indoor XC clinic with H) that there may be a mid way, where I could push my ambitions a bit. But no, I am happy to just plod along. H wasn't fit and I wasn't bothered LOL.

I am glad that you are all so happy.

Love the update and I’m joining team no ambition.

The video of Rigsby on holiday shows just how good and older and slightly compromised horse can look. He’s fabulous
Why, thank you.

I don't think he would pass a flexion test but he is sound day to day. I'm only guessing about the flexion test because he prefers to be trimmed with an angle grinder (not back and forward pulling and a lot quicker) to standing with a leg up for a long time with the rasp dragging backwards and forwards. He may well pass one, who knows? If you do too much on the arena, he gets tired on the right rein quicker than the left behind, and can end up brushing. But, other than that, never a lame step. If he works too hard out hacking ( such as too much sustained canter) he needs to wee many times on the way home, so I suspect that is age/condition related.

He is a really happy chap though and looks wonderful.

Hey, that was a life defining moment for me, lack of ambition

But guess what, I think I've gone further without actually trying!
I've done precisely nothing since my ambition deserted me. It was when mum was ill with head injury/dementia and I was her only POA. I sold the fancy horse and bought Rigs. Since then, I've done a few unaffiliated jollies, some lessons, a load of fun camps, and been hint riding with H. No actual 'progression' in any measurable sense, other than pleasure in my horses. My biggest pleasure is that they have both taught the totally non horsey BF to ride from scratch.
For a moment when you said ā€œJiggersā€ I thought you had got a Shetland and forgotten to tell us! 🤣

You may not be ambitious but you’re a better and more confident jumper than I’ll ever be!
Oh, Rigs gets called all sorts. Rigs became Riggers, or Jigs and Jiggers because he can be a bot of a turbo cob out hacking and had to learn that jig-jogging is not permissible. I didn't used to mind so much, but when BF was learning, it was all a bit much on the way back from the pub LOL.
Love how much energy Rigsby has. 🄰
LOL, I love it too when he is being ridden, but not so much when he is being a hooligan at home and kicking the electric insulator right off the post 🤣

Rigs was the best bargain ever. Very inexpensive and huge fun. As I have said many times, I only started this thread as so many people seem to write older horses, or compromised horses, off. It was a risk to start the thread from the start as he was in a predicament health wise, and I could have just looked a fool for parting with the money! I had faith that the previous owners had been 100% honest though, so I felt I knew what I was taking on, and the risks. They had beautifully started his rehab.

Oh Rigsby! I haven't ridden him for months, and in fact he's only been ridden a couple of times in months. Today, as BH did a marathon ride yesterday, I got Rigs in, saddled up and went out with a friend.

Rigsby felt SOOOOO important! He strutted out. He was impatient to wait for the bin lorry and fidgeted constantly. At the pub, he was trying to mug me for beer! On the way back we had a little canter and he was so excited. I mean, he's not fit so we hardly got into canter before we pulled up, but he thought it was so exciting.

So exciting that he jogged all the way home 🤣

Got to love an oldie who is living his best life!
