I watched the war horse documentary last night and it had me in tears. Seeing those beautiful creatures dead in the mud with their harnesses on and hearing how brave both the horses and their soldiers were it's made me really think about my horse and the horses i've loved and lost.

So in memory to those forgotten horses that died to help give us freedom I thought I would start a thread for everyone to say why they love their horses and what their horse means to them.

I love my horse because:-

- he's my best friend. He's always there for me no matter what is happening in life as an anchor to remind me whats really important.

- he never lets me down. No matter what I throw at him, Dressage, XC, Showjumping, showing ect he NEVER says no.. he never stops at a fence or has a tantrum in the dressage, he always tries. He makes everything feel so easy and he is always 100% on my side when the chips are down.

- he's a precocious dork! He has a massive character which has me swinging from wanting to throttle him to howling with laughter.

- He can have spirit and fire and joy but then be calm and quiet and sweet as pie.

- I can squash up his soft squidgy nose and kiss it over and over and he loves it, he gently blows on my face when i'm brushing him and he always swings his itchy spots into me so i'm forced to scratch them.

- He is beautiful. His cloat gleams like molten fire and his eyes are shining liquid brown pools. He has tiny furry ears and a pretty dished face, he has the longest legs I have ever seen! He makes me laugh because when hes pratting around in the field he looks like an out of control baby orangutang, orange legs flying everywhere.

I could go on forever lol.

Your turn! :D

I love Big Hotse because:
He's made me appreciate how hard work can have the most wonderful results

When my trainer rides him and is teaching him something new, I am amazed how beautiful and graceful he is, even though I've seen it before and I will again.

He keeps me on my toes, he can be so cool about some stuff yet completely cack

I love my horse because:

- We are the same, identical characters that fate brought together in a horrid but momentus way.

- We need each other

- He tries his heart out for me and NEVER ever goes the same for anyone else ;) NB: I am not saying that no one else can ride him/he is a one person horse, I am saying he knows what he likes and he likes what he knows :D

-lastly, because he is my dream horse, the dapply prince that has filled my thoughts since I was a tiny child :)

He has such a beautiful face.

Because of him, I met my husband.

I love Baby Horse because:
He has shown me how to be patient yet firm and fair.

He has the cutest ears I've ever seen.

Every time I run my hands down his legs, I'm amazed how perfect they are.

I am so excited about our future together.

He has shown me that sometimes, taking the plunge and just going for it can be a Good Thing.

But most of all I love them both because they have enriched and enhanced my life more than I could ever have hoped for.

She is so brave and capable and can turn her hoof to anything

She likes hairing around Dartmoor, like me!

Although very VERY grumpy - she does have her soft moments (which are emphasized 100x by the grumpiness)

She is always there for me and knows when I'm having a bad day (and gives me less of a hard time - although does shock me occasionally by being perfectly behaved!)

We have been through so much growing up together and I wouldn't change that for the world :)

How long have you got? :D

I love Bella because she's got such a lovely character and she's beautiful too. She's loving, and her favourite thing is to have a cuddle with me and snuggle right into me - she's like an overgrown puppy and just wants love and attention. She'll follow me round loose like a little lost dog!

She's not the easiest to ride but when she's good she's a little star, and she's come so far in the almost 2 years I've owned her for. She loves going out for a good gallop and it's the best feeling because you can tell she's absolutely loving it!

She's been with me through a lot of bad times and without her I don't know what I'd have done because she kept me going and gave me something to live for. She doesn't mind if I just sit and cry into her neck, she'll just stand there and snuggle into me as if she knows and is trying to comfort me.

She makes me smile daily, she's such a happy little horse and although we've had our ups and downs, I couldn't live without her now. I could go on forever, but essentially I love Bella to bits and wouldn't swap her for the world :)

I love my pony because shes a fighter (sometimes makes me want to kill her as well )
She never lets you walk all over her, if she doesn't want to stay in the field NO fencing will keep her in. When she wants to work for you she is amazing though :) really tries her heart out! Shes a difficult one though you can never judge how she will react to something .. That's why I love her :D

I love my boy cos no matter how crap my riding is , he never complains or holds it against me..He's ALWAYS pleased to see me , ( especially when i've got his food :D) and he never has a false or shallow motive ( unlike some humans ) , what you see , is what he is , kind , big and soppy and I LOVE him:rolleyes:

I'm not quite sure why i love mine - he was impossible to hack, difficult and spooky to school, mucky in his stable. Now retired he's still bossy, stubborn, messy, naughty, and expensive.
But I DO love him, no matter what; I just don't know why!

I love my horse because...

- he is always there for me no matter what

- he has a lovely, cheeky personality

- he is the ultimate all rounder and will turn his hoof to anything

- he is very affectionate and talks to me whenever he sees me. He also grooms me back when I groom him :)

- he is my horse of a lifetime and I am so lucky to have him

:)

Because this morning he probably did the best work in the school he's done in ages - never mind that we had half an hour of yak-ness before 10 minutes of awesomeness (yes, that's right - we managed to trot a circle!!) and that he only did the awesomeness when no one else was around - I was desperate for someone (anyone!) to come round the corner so I could yell "look at my pretty pony - he CAN do it!!" but alas no, but loads of people saw the first bit - in yak mode.

Also love him because he gives good cuddles, has a personality that's way bigger then he is (it's not hard he's 13.2!) and he's the only horse on the yard that can pull off a polka dot turnout rug and inordinate amounts of high viz that make him look like he's heading to a rave and still think he's "the man"!

And I love love love that he seems to enjoy jumping now we're teaching him to jump - I think there's an eventer inside that fell pony just waiting to burst out!

I love my horse because...

In 1 word he is quite simply AMAZING! :D

He's a big boy but is so gentle & such a complete gentleman it makes doing anything with him a pure joy.

He might not be the best at everything but there isn't a horse on the planet that tries harder & gives you so much.

He has a heart as big as a bucket.

He'll happily let my 16 month old daughter sit on him and fuss him & I know he'll look after her - he'd tie himself in knots before he stood on her (obviously I don't just leave her to it before anyone jumps up & down!).

He looks after me and trusts me enough to know I'll always look after him.

He's my horse of a lifetime and God broke the mould when he made him :)

I love Reggie because he makes my sister so happy. Together they've battled through a lot of rubbish times and he still makes her smile whenever she rides him. He's got the kindest, gentlest soul and he does his best to keep her safe. And, he's a sweetheart who'll be subjected to hours of cuddles without batting an eyelid, yet will power round a 1m XC course (as his first XC round of the year!) making it look like it was about 10cm!

Because she's the most arrogant & self assured pony i've ever met. She wriggles her nostrils in a funny way. Will fight (& win) anyone who gets on & tells her what to do, but will take a nervous 10 year old round a decent sized course if they ask her nicely. Would probably hack on a loose rein down the mway central reservation if you asked her, but snorts at parked cars on quiet lanes. Because she trusts me & is so willing to do what I ask, even when every instinct is telling her to flee. She can be handled by a tiny tot but can hold her own competing. Because she does very girly squeals.
Daughters pony- cos she adores my daughter & looks after her. Cos when we got pony she had a reputation for being difficult so a few people called her nasty so it made me very protective.
