Pictures I may have done a thing…buying unseen

Finvarra or its other spellings -- Finn Bheara. Fionnbarr. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finvarra (sort of wished I'd used this, but it's more Irish than Scottish). Maybe Finglas. If I had a Connie, I would go for something in the Irish language.

That said, I chickened out when I gave Foinaven his barn name. Wanted something in proper Gaelic, but I didn't want the barn staff to hate me. He's named after a mountain -- the spelling you see on OS maps and guidebooks -- but that's been Anglicized. The real spelling is Foinne Bheinn.

His passport name, however, will make show announcers cry, if we ever show. Balmenach of Auchness.

If you have to lead him from the transport, can you have someone else there with another, steady horse he could follow to help take his mind off the strangeness of it all?
Yes we can definitely recruit alpha mare to help bring him home. And definitely NOT BBP! He is going to be the problem child more than the yearling probably. Last time we brought a new one in he got so over excited and worked up he becomes a liability, tries to climb fences and gates, and then starts to tie up and shakes all over. Ive got a nice patch of grass ready for him as a diversion, not sure if it will work. That said, we’ve had a fair few hacking buddies come and go in horse boxes and trailers to hack out with my sister and her horses recently that he may be a little less fussed by it now.

All this name talk while knowing that BBP isn't really called BBP and that after all these years I don't actually know what his name is ?
?? I could tell you but then I’d have to kill you! I don’t want to compromise his secret career as international spy/super hero. Amongst his other pseudonyms are ‘Peter Pan’ for his inability to ever grow up, and ‘the artful dodger’ for his skills as thief extraordinaire. (The number of times I have found full water buckets on the wrong side of the fence before I realised he was dragging them through and leaving the poor horse on the other side without water.)

Good luck for today! I hope the lorry can unload close by if not at your yard. Looking forward to 'gotcha' pics and hearing what name you settle on.

Ummm… well on one side he’s out of caherlistrane Darkie Lady by Caherlistrane Blackie…not sure I’m comfortable following that naming route ? Other side is Maghera Fadda Lad. But so far, if it suits him, Merlin is winning (small dark European falcon and world reknowned sorcerer of course!), or Neo (although it was pointed out to me that if you call that out loud three times in the field you start to sound like a police siren) or Bahlu as I had really wanted something bear themed (but then if you shout that out long and loud it sounds like you are howling!). I also like Wolfie after a horse I used to groom for. But I can’t tell if any sound twee or silly.

I’m still waiting for a call from Mullins as to which load they can get him on, feels like a long wait!

So bear themed…

Artos is the celtic root word for “bear”. Artos, Arty, Arthur, Art…

Or famous bears… Rupert? Yogi? Koda? Paddington… Paddy?

So little man arrived this afternoon, a little shell shocked and looking pretty stiff after his long trip. Unloaded on the road outside the yard with my family stopping traffic each way. Given he only learned to be led three weeks ago when I asked for videos of him, he was an absolute poppet to lead out to the field. He's dropped weight on the trip, which I had expected as he wasn't a fatty to start.

Popped him out in the field whilst the others were in the arena and he had a boggley eyed spook at the pile of hay I had put out and then went 'oh, food, thank goodness!', put his head down and started munching. And that was about as exciting as it got.....unless you count BBP! Predictable as ever, he turned on 'beast mode' and gave us an impressive display of passage and Spanish walk. he might be nuts, and a little fat, but he looks incredible at the moment. He really stole the show and all eyes were on him. The good thing is he isn't showing any aggression (as sometimes when he fires himself up it can boil over), but I think it will have to be a tactful process of integrating little one with BBP and his mare the buckskin, as they are very bonded.

But little one wasn't the least bit phased by BBP's prancing around, slightly bemused, but generally just quietly curious and probably pretty exhausted.

I'm really pleased so far, I think he will be an ugly duckling to swan transformation as he grows up. He has legs like tree trunks (compared to BBP) and already has a much more relaxed demeanor than my current loony. I genuinely have no idea what colour he is. Quite pale hazel eyes and chocolate body with an orange mane. Jaffa cake colour!
