First a bit of advice. It doesn't matter how much you dislike the first horse you bought from a dealer never ever ever swap it in a carpark for another horse.

Dolly is completley crippled, she has spavins in both hocks and on 2 bute a day is still lame on a circle. I haven't ridden her in well over a month. She would never have passed a vetting, if I had had her vetted but I just wanted desperatly to get rid of the other horse so badly I just grabbed any other option. Which yes I know wasn't the right thing to do.

The dealer told me to ride her on bute until that didn't work anymore, but it has never worked and I didn't feel right doing it anyway.

I can't claim on insurance as it was a pre exsisting condition to when I bougth her 2 months ago, but I didn't get her vetted so its my own fault.

Just very upset that I have been ripped off so badly, lost all my money and can't afford to buy a new horse. The Dealer was recommended to me as being very straight and honest by several people, as if.

Also feel sorry for poor Dolly, she is the most lovely mare, we really got on well and now she is lame. I am going to try to sell her as a broodmare as she has jumped and won some very good classes and has £2,500 BSJA, but if that doesn't work I'll get her PTS.

Sh*t. I'm sorry, for you and Dolly.
Some bastard must have jabbed it up
Please have your next horse vetted! Especially if it is an older imported warmblood

ETS - presumably you didn't know she had spavin when you bought her? If you didn't know then I don't see why the insurance won't pay up?

Oh no. How awful. My boss swapped one of her horses for another at a show, years ago, when vetting wasn't about, he turned out to be a top class horse that took her to Badminton and started off her breeding chain. So you don't no if you are going to get a good'un or a duff one, its the risk you take.

Oh sh:t, how horrible for you!

rather than having her put to sleep why don't you contact one of the charities? (unless she in a lot of pain)

So sorry you were ripped off

Oh i am sorry

I didn't know she was lame. One good thing is you've learnt your lesson.

I'm sure someone out there will definitely want her as a broodmare as you say she has an excellent competition record and she is just lovely. I'd jump at the chance of having her if I hadn't had to have Dollar back.

I feel so bad for Dolly, I caught her yesterday and she came running over and was so excited because she thought I was going to ride her, she was bouncing at the end of her leadrope.

Just wish the bute worked. Obv she COULD come right in time, but that doesn't help either of you in the now. I am just so gutted for you that she was sold, lame, to the dealer and he was not honest to you - I am fuming.

If you can prove the dealer knew the horse was lame then take him to court. Dolly was sold to you as a showjumper, she is not fit for purpose.
Agreed it was silly not to have her vetted but she was still misrepresented to you.

He said to me after I told him she was lame

'I always thought she would go lame on the front first and when we bought her we thought if she didn't come right she would always be a broodmare'

I really believe she was misrepresented. DD hasn't mentioned that she did a straight swop even though the horse she returned was worth more. She did not ask for the difference back, she acted above board, and to have this done to her is just the absolute pits

And I recommended the dealer too, and I do feel very bad for that.

Would you PM me who it was, am I correct in thinking PA?

I'm the sort of person who is pretty straight and expect others to be the same, and if I feel I have been done wrong by will fight my corner big time. So if it were me I would be speaking to my friendly solicitor. However that's not going to make things right with Dolly

I just can't believe you don't have a case, have you tried an advice line like BHS?
You know you can come and ride fat orange one if it cheers you up at all....

I just feel that I don't have a case as I didn't get her vetted and I would have to prove that he definaltly knew she wasn't right.

Thank you for the offer of the orange one.

If it's any consulation my friend and I fell hook line and sinker for a dealer who used to post on here. My friend lost over 8k on a horse who this dealer sold for her and never passed the money on. Trading standards are still chasing as it wasn't just us that was stitched up she also did it to an owner with a 20k horse

Also since then one other person has come forward so they are preparing a case.
Only consulation is horse is in a lovely home with someone who keeps in touch it's just maddening knowing how stitched up we've been.
Trouble with these cases is you can run up £1000's in lawyer fees and these people know the ways out so invarably get away with it.
I hope this isn't the case for you though. I wish we could name and shame on here as we went from recommendations from this site.

feel for you BUT you are being very realisist, if she can't do job she was brought for and you've tried your best to find a good hacking home, broadmare or field companion, and you can't keep as pet, i understand you decision totally.
Fingers crossed you find a good home soon, and as you say hindsight is a good thing
And with money from sale and for the fact you aren't keeping horse, money will build up sooner than you think, to buy new jumper

well posted on other thread but this has more comments. Hey i recommended the b*"£"$ as well

Vet can easily show that the condition was pre-existing and noticeable. A 'trustworthy' non bias and honest person (eg comp rider/trainer etc) could state 'recommended' prices for calibre of horse and so prove she was obviously under priced.

not being vetted is not and should not be an issue when a few xrays are going to show serious deteoration. Go to the CAB or find a friendly solictior. Not sure how much you paid but it may well be one for the small claims which will cost far less to chase. And just imagine their face if they are threatened with some serious bad press as you could do their reputation some justifiable serious damage...
