I have a very lovely but stupid fox terrier - he eats stones and I think he has one stuck and can not sick it up or 'deposit' it.

He is very restless, he is drinking and been to the toilet twice since 7 o'clock and I took him with the other dogs for a long walk to see if it would help him 'pass' the unwelcome stone, he was his usual lively self but is now back being restless and groaning a bit.

Vet early on said he should pass it............but I hate seeing him like this especially as its getting late.

So do I call vet again or see how he is in the morning......?

Sorry forgot to say he's eating lots of grass and has been sick 3/4 times ( no stone - just acid)

Thanks in advance

update........so I called vet again and aired my concerns as getting late and still no better. Vet was lovey and although I am 'no drama queen' she did make me feel better - confirming the expected reaction.
They advised that the groaning / unsettled behaviour was probably tummy ache and as long as he was resting to try and let it pass - by 2pm he was fast asleep, 5am wanted to jump into bed (my bed) for a cuddle and by 6:30am was eating again as if he had been starved!!!

so yes he is back to normal today - so did he have tummy ache from the stone he had 'sicked up' or has he passed another stone that was stuck...........on another note can anyone recommend how to stop him eating stones - does not chew just randomly plays with them then rolls on his back and swallows them.

Haha, that's a good one Kitty! I tried curry powder and chilli powder for Bella (she was chewing cable ties that I'd used to lash her run back together after she popped the bars out by bouncing on them) but she seemed to like it!

Keep him on a line and when he tries to pick up a stone, use a command like 'leave it' or 'ah-ah' beckon him over with something nice like chicken or cheese and if he doesn't come or strains for it, physically reel him in or go over and bring him to where you are, offer treat again and praise - so stone - command to leave - praise on his return.
You'll have to work on it for a while but it may save his life.
Also have something like a ball on a rope or another toy as an alternative to stones, even a plastic bottle would be better.

My nan (from Belize) has the hottest pepper sauce sent over from the states, it literally burns a hole in your mouth, thats got to work on any canine mouth! Apart from maybe a Taco Bell chihuahua!
