I never come in here/odd question?

You do know that what you will probably end up with, wont fit that description at all, dont you. :D

But....that lovely girl form HHO will be rising it ;) LMAO

Ok...........im looking for a jet black (a little white permitted), cob type, with minimal feather, safe/forward going, no plodder than cant move, but just as a happy hack.
Hence you will see the very pretty 14 year old unbroken mare;)
I loan maybe a better idea to see if it can stick, but mind u once I have an animal it remains forever:rolleyes:

You just described the beasty I am taking round the fields for a blast tomorrow :p
I am off to the land of nod now but I shall start my horse hunting tomorrow:D

 Oh ffs sake woman!
Unbroken 14 year old mare....jesus wept!
..........*sigh* when you picking it up then?! :p

So true! Give it a few weeks and you'll fall in love with a grey TB. :D

I remember seeing one that did match your description on horsemart a month ago, it may still be there. :)

OK I have to say this... You know this is the equivalent of someone saying "I have never owned a dog before but found these two husky cross puppies in a puppy farm, I live in an appartment, work 8-6, would it be a good idea to rehome them?"

Hun, forget about the unbroken mare. Get a nice hack, preferably on loan, and if you decide to try for a baby you can chose whether to return him to his owner or pop him in a field for a few months before you are ready to get back on.

Lol, don't worry I would not have bought a 14 yr old horse, the breaking bit being the least off my worries, the age is. Neither would I buy a horse so far away from me, Im also lazy and like to sleep in so the likelyhood of me actually talking myself into one is not going to happen, although it's tempting keep seeing these pretty black horses for sale and OH keeps trying to get me back into horses;)
Neither will there be any sproglets:p OH can dream on there:rolleyes:
Lol possibly a bit different to the dog scenario, cos I have a field/stable (that I allow to be used now for free for a cute foal and little shetland pony) and if horse turned out to be unsuitable/injured/a looney (like my old horse) it would remain and recieve appropriate care, and one thing Im not is unconfident to ride a rather green or fiesty horse with issues:D just a bit rusty on ownership, my old horse was low maintenance to care for but a nightmare to handle (bless his heart) I lost him 2 years ago at the age of 30+ and had owned him since I was a wee kiddie but he remained a field ornament for along time whilst I never rode apart from a hunter type horse we took on to stable for the RSPCA and he was a boring plod, one good thing my own horse taught me was how to manage a wild beast:D so would be nice to get a safe forward going uncomplicated horse now im older and I work:D like the mare I used to ride when younger along side my own wild horse lol and she was a fell pony and very strong forward going but safe.
So don't worry guys, my boss who is a qualified riding instructer would lamp me 1st and formost for getting anything to unsuitable:p

I have spied a few more, my thought train was, the 14 year old looked exactly what I would want from a looks point of view, and I aint going to buy an unsuitable horse cos it looks good:p I have spotted a few more since.

Now vizzy bog off and let me sleep, I never got to bet till 5.30:eek: "if you had a horse you would have to be up" I heard that:rolleyes: and you know my answer................Arron:D:D:D

Ps, I think visiting my old field and seeing the horses in there now sort of got me thinking........but it will probably pass.

Ps, I was mostly genuinly interested in why you would have an unbroken 14 yr old and even more tha some answered that folk they know had and succesfully, that surprised me more, cos my 1st thought was "why"? lol:D
I'm gonna come in here more often;)

shes put the reference up, you only have to input that and the advert comes up.

Eak, now that has proven how lazy I am, I neva even looked at the top of the page or the bottom of Dingeys where it said reference:o but L expects nothing less:D

He is a nice sturdy looking boy, but not as pretty as the 14 year old L:rolleyes::D

A friend broke in a 15 year old mare, who had been a broodmare. Fabulous horse, never seen a horse learn so quick.....

He has also broken in a few 'over 10' mares, they all turned out pretty decent.

To those yelling 'don't get a 14 year old mare!'.......You can't discount something just because of it's age, unless it was not used because of injury, some older horses, having 'seen the world' become very receptive to a new career.

Good luck in your search!

:D

Thankyou:) and to be fair I don't want a young horse, but I suppose like someone has mentioned, horses like the 2 I had last live well into their 30's, so even 14 really is certainly not ancient.

Now this may seem like a stupid question but have you asked whoever is selling it/who you're looking at getting it from why it's not been broken in?!

I would say either a broodmare, injured or loopy. However, there could be the slim possibility that someone just kept her as a pet or just never got around to breaking her. I picked up a two year gelding for a friend of mine several years ago after her horse had died. She did sort of break it in but to be perfectly honest the horse has never been ridden as such and has just been a pet along with the 3 retired horses she had. He will be about 9 now and there is nothing wrong with him, my friend just doesn't have the time to do anything with him and doesn't live in a place where she can just hack straight out from where he's kept (all main roads, no bridleways). She won't sell him either as she has another old horse who he is the companion for. She has asked me to ride him but she lives a fair way away so it's not really feasible for me.

So, it can happen, time flies past and maybe noone's got around to doing anything with the mare. Doesn't mean it can't be done.

Thankyou Lt25, I think for the sake of finding out, I am now going to ask:) as there does seem to be some genuine reasons for breaking older horses mentioned and seems to have turned out fine.
