I Rode To My Prom!!! (Lots of Pics!)

im not being awkward but as a mum - werent you a bit worried about riding with no hat????? again - i am a novice so may be totally wrong -but isn it illegal to ride on public roads without one?????
Im really not beign awkward - i really would love my daughter to do this too - she could ride him there and me take him home, but i just worry our insurance may be invalid, the police may get involved if shes not wearing a hat????
I hope not because like you must do obviously - i totally trust our horse - im just confused re the legalities of riding on the public highway without a hat????

I totally trust my pony and I know accidents can happen, but I was aware. The place where the prom was held, has a big parking field, where we parked the trailer and unloaded the horse. We then got on and rode up a gravel drive, so there was no riding on public roads at all!

i cannot agree - she wasnt on a public road and certainly knows and trusts her pony - did you know the queen rides in a headscarve? she never wears a hat. If you trust your pony and are in a safe area i cannot see a problem - i would certainly let my daughter do this - i think its georgeous xxx

Umm Kaelea I think its really up to the rider dont you? the law is based on the fact that once you are over 14 you are actually capable of making your own decision. If thats such a big problem, lobby to change the law, dont snipe at her for doing something perfectly lawful.

To me, 5 mins on private land for a special day is a different thing than a 3 hour hack on busy roads.

I dont ride without a hat and would think people a bit mad to do it regularly but its about balancing risks and the OP already said she was specifically NOT asking for views on hats!

Just be glad for her that she had a lovely time!

lmao

I was on a horse who I absolutely trusted, I had far more qualifications than a girl going to her prom can have, I was also on a private beach when I fell off!

I somehow got kicked in the head, I lost my memory for 2 years which cost me my relationship and nearly my kids, I had no idea who they were!!!

I now have epilepsy and Menieres disease, I'll never work, let alone ride again

and you know what! I was wearing a hat!!

but heck if you want to be totally irresponsible and let your kids take the risk ... so be it

i am so so sorry about that - its terrible. I am sorry and i didnt mean to start an argument - we can all be wrong - im so sorry and hope you are gettign better x

Sorry to hear you had an accident that has resulted in problems Kaelea, but we hear of people dying in car accidents, does that stop us getting into them?

Someone up the road from us is now disabled from the neck down (and he had a hat on) whilst having a riding lesson, but it doesn't stop me from riding....

Each person to their own over things like this. I wouldn't let my son do it, but thats my choice, though at the moment he IS under 14 so it IS the law, even after that, I would be super-gluing the hat to his head if I had to....

If we all stopped doing what we love due to being worried of the consequences, then we wouldn't live at all....

I understand your passion over this though, and hope life isn't too rough for you!

Beautiful photos- you both look amazing :D Really wish i could have done that to my prom.
When i first read the title i did wonder how you would ride in dresses though... i'd forgot about sidesaddle! :o

Hope you had a fantastic time!

I dont understand people like you. Yes, you want to get your point across about wearing a hat, but the OP clearly said she KNEW THE RISKS, so therefore shouldnt you of just kept your opinions to yourself?!
Sorry about your accident, but just because it happened to you, then doesnt mean its gonna happen to everyone else who doesnt wear a hat. 5 mins along a private road is quite different to hacking out to a private beach, qualifications or not! Just leave it why don't you, this was a happy post about a girl enjoying her prom and her horse, so why ruin it?!

Anyway, i LOVE your pictures! You looked stunning, and your horse is gorgeous! What a fab idea :D glad you had an awesome time!! xxx

First of all, I am sorry about your freak accident.

You come across as very bitter. I have ridden many times without a hat but as you said, you ere wearing one when you had your accident, so the relevance of not wearing one beat me!

OP, I think your photo's look amazing, well done for being original.

Ditto what everybody else says! The horse looked super smart, and ignore those moaning about no hats. By the looks of things you were lead by your mum, or had her close by, so I don't see what the problem was! :)

and your experience is relevant how?

what a vile person you are

OP - you look beautiful and so does does your neddy

Wow thats so amazing, the horses look FAB and you and your friend do to.. How lovely!! so jealous would aloved to have done that.
Quick question did you rent the side saddles or have you ridden in them before. Hope you had a brilliant time, people will remember your entrance for years x

I think the idea was fantastic and what a thing to remember in years to come.
Admittedly a risky business, but sometimes calculated risks are worth it.

Glad you were on horses you trusted and not riding on public roads.

I also thought though; think about how the culture is different in other countries....USA springs to mind..there it is almost unheard of to wear a hat as a matter of course....more only worn for competitions.

Well done you two...and to the horses you all looked stunning and what a fantastic entrance you made!

You are 100 times prettier and more elegant than lady godiva herself, and thats with your clothes on ;)

Oh and your pony looks very smartly done up too :)

The pictures look stunning! I think it was a great idea! I would love to have some pictures with my horse for my graduation but I wouldn't have a hope in hell loading him! Ah well!
