After yesterday’s delight at improvement in Robin he is miserable again today. Don’t touch me, you may scratch my shoulder if you must but don’t touch me. I don’t want to eat my hay but I’ll eat my feed. Head down, eyes shit. Almost ripped the yo head off for touching him. I have sent a very long email to vet. I CANNOT allow him to carry on like this. I wonder if I should push for a trip to the vet school.

Perks up if someone suggests a treat. Breathing rate 24. Google says this is both high and normal depending on what you look at.

Poor monkey, sorry to hear this. BHS says normal respiration rate between 8-16 per minute so sounds very uncomfortable. In my experience ( and yes I have done it many times) long emails can cause a rolling of eyes and you're on ignore so it might be worth a phone call to encourage them to read it :)

Don’t want to panic you, but 24 is very high (I speak from painful and bitter experience) and suggests he is experiencing pain, so I would definitely push for a proper vet work up.

K could you have somone walk him down to the road and load him there? I understand it's obviously not ideal but maybe better than driving down the road fully loaded.

That is my next thought. If I can get the yo to drive my car and trailer down and i will walk him down slowly and pick our way down. Yard is just as icey though, even the ride in anything people can’t get out. Due to be -4 tonight and only due to get warmer Saturday night.

Vet I spoke to tonight said he is a lovely horse and any dealings she has had with him he has been happy and polite and a nice horse to deal with so for him to have lost that is worrying.

My lovely wonderful friend offered her partner to drive my car and trailer down the road tomorrow morning. Unfortunately too late now but such a nice thing to offer. He has to go back to work Thursday.

Oh no poor boy and poor you. I agree def refer to equine hospital. Hopefully your friend can get him out, how horrendously stressful.

Breathing down to 20 this morning. Improved but not great. Spoke at length to vet treating him and we decided I just HAVE to get him to the vet tomorrow am. He will gastroscope and put down into lungs. Takes bloods. Then possibly head to Edinburgh. I will push to go straight there rather than home.

However looking at forecast and down for heavy snow from 8pm to 8am this will make getting him there impossible.

Can your vet admit him tonight before the snow? Good that he's better again, although he is clearly not right, you should pat yourself on the back for not ignoring him.

Must be very frustrating for you but if travel is not possible don't panic, just might be worth exploring if it is possible (might not be though)...

Would it be possible to take him this evening and stable him there overnight? Obviously adds a bit to the bill, but I imagine that's the least of your worries!

They don’t have stabling for overnight. Local vet that is. There is 2 stables but he would be there alone and no humans about.

other option could be have a bed put down in the trailer if vets havent got stabling as it is sounding quite serious now. fingers crossed for both of you

Hello

only just caught up with this sorry Robins poorly.

I had something similar in the past 3 weeks, Merlin wasn’t himself coughed now and again when eating lost some weight a couple of the other horses had slight cough too, booked Vet then had to get them out straight away as merlins breathing was heaving I’ll try post the video I sent vet.not sure how to do it though ?
She came out temp normal lungs normal throat normal she took bloods -came back liver problem, given Danilon, milk thistle and vitamin E . Taken off hay and put on hayledge and within days much happier horse. No coughing or heavy breathing. And stuffing his face on the hayledge, could this be something similar?
