I think barefoot trimmer may have conned me!

I would have to disagree as my barefoot trimmer is doing things differently to any farrier i have ever used, the point i was making is that if you ask a 99 out of 100 farriers for a trim then you will get a pasture trim and that is all they will do, which isnt really what you would want for riding out barefoot. The preconception is that trimmers are just people who havent bothered to learn how to be a farrier, which of course in the vast majority is not the case.

I must've been exceptionally fortunate with my farriers then. It was a FARRIER who suggested NOT putting shoes on PF when I first got her, and it was a farrier who trimmed her subsequently.
All this farrier bashing gets on my tits. Why is it so outrageous to suggest a trimmer may not know what they're doing, but it's perfectly fine to slag off farriers??

Thank you all very much who posted helpful replies. I am really sorry that this turned into a heated barefoot versus shod debate, was not my intention at all but very naive of me not to think more carefully at the title, given this is H&H!

Since emailing her with my intention to make a small claim via the courts and to name and shame, she has agreed to send me my money back. She did at first ask me to send her the boots and THEN she would refund me? In view of her original rather unprofessional and dismissive attitude I naturally refused. She has now agreed to send me a cheque and I will send the boots to her when the cheque has cleared through my account.

Hopefully I have found someone who will be able to give me an assessment of her feet and if necessary wait until there is some growth to re trim, before measuring and recommending the most suitable boots for her. Purely out of interest, and not to add to the debate.....he is a qualified farrier who is interested in both the shod and barefoot hoof and is happy to recommend whichever he feels most suitable for my horse.

Good grief where have you been looking?

I did request the reference so that I could look the information up with regards to farriers trimming unshod under vet supervision being best. .

If your horse is shod with wedges then I doubt if he is, or if he is I doubt he will stay that way over time. There are plenty of farriers who think that wedges do more harm than good.

And vets. ....

Why can't some people get it into their heads that there are good farriers and bad farriers....good trimmers and bad trimmers....

I'm a teacher and I know there are good teachers and bad teachers......

Same goes for -

Police officers
Doctors
Nurses
Solicitors

..etc etc etc...

What works for one, might not work for another.

Probably the most sensible response I've read in a while
