Grace came in crippled lame on Sunday night, so I had the vet up first thing on Monday who found a big abscess which started coming out as soon as he had a dig around. He cut some of it away, told me to warm poultice it, and then the farrier could have another dig around on Tuesday when he was coming out.
The farrier came out on tuesday evening and said he thought it looked on its way out and did not really take much off her foot. He told me to continue warm poulticing it for another two days (Weds and Thurs) then dry poultice on Friday, Sat, Sun and Mon and he would come out on Tuesday to put her shoe back on.
Yesterday, there was still stuff coming out on the poulitce, so the vet said to continue warm poulticing until tomorrow (then put a dry one on) and see how she is when the farrier comes back out on Tuesday.
There is a still some clear stuff coming out on the abscess (was discoloured before), but she still looks quite lame in trot when she trotted across the field. I only put her out for 2 hours with a poultice on, and there was nothing on it this morning at all even though it still smelled.
So it looks as though we are going to miss the Area Festival on Saturday... I am absolutely gutted to say the least. It would have been the first one we have done, and I was looking forwards to going having qualified
